Bright blue eyes were curtained by bangs as the girl leaned over the table to gather the last of the dishes. Her shift would be ending soon, and while she honestly didn’t mind working at all, she was kind of thankful to be able to miss the dinner rush. Since she was a manager she usually had to stay and make sure things went smoothly, but she was getting tonight off, so she wasn’t going to complain. She had some plans for it anyway, since a certain roommate was probably going to be working way too hard and way too late again. Really, if she was a clingy person things never would have worked, but Riley could usually find ways to entertain herself. Either way, she liked to do nice things for him sometimes. Don’t ask why! She just did.
Plates would be stacked on her arms, dishes expertly gripped and precariously balanced as she made her way back to the kitchens on memory alone. They would be deposited for the washer, and she would grab a baggie with several to-go boxes in it. She got a good employee’s discount, so the normally expensive food was easily afforded. She made her way to the back so she could grab her jacket and purse. Thereafter she would go through the process of clocking out, getting in her car, and driving to the hospital.
Once there, the food would be grabbed out of her passenger seat, the car would be locked, and she would make her way inside. She knew her way to him by memory, she’d seen him enough at work after all. Despite the fact that her face was slightly tired from working, her hair slightly mussed, and her pants slightly dirty, the girl walked with an air of confidence. And why wouldn’t she? She was well aware of what she looked like, after all.
Finally, she found him. He didn’t seem to be too awfully busy, but either way she would place the food off to the side and lean against the desk silently, just waiting for him to notice her – because she knew he would.

The day had certainly started out busy enough; there had been a rather large accident that morning and that meant the nurses had him rushing around getting this thing or that thing. It was all he could do to keep up with the orders and the stacks of paperwork on his desk. Things didn't even begin to die down until well after he was supposed to meet Riley for lunch. No doubt she knew that these things happened but still, Jae couldn't help but feel bad when he tried to make plans to spend time with her that always seemed to fall short. Jae had already texted Riley, informing her of the unfortunate events that would mean he would have to take a rain check again on the plans he had made initially. He felt horrible that he had to keep asking for another time when something happened at work but it wasn't like Jae had wanted an emergency situation to occur.
Sighing, Jae tossed the phone on his desk and pulled out the next file that he had to fill out. There had been so many cases that day that he hadn't gotten the chance to keep up with what he had left from last night even. Well, it seemed like he was going to be working late tonight again, at least he didn't have to worry about school for the time being. His classes right now were fairly easy so he didn't have to worry about studying too much. If that wasn't the case, he would have been a lot more stressed about his workload than he was right now.
By the time Riley arrived at the hospital, Jae had managed to work through most of the files he needed to work through mostly thanks to his gift. He one a hell of a headache now and Veritas' quips about how he could have told him all the information if he had only asked. Why the gods had deemed to send him that thing for a familiar, Jae would never know but he saw no use for Veritas whatsoever. Jae had just barely managed to finish the rest of the paperwork when he felt someone staring at him and looked up to see Riley. With his gift still in play it was like a wave of euphoria had hit him, making his breath catch and his heart race.
Instead of the smile Riley was no doubt expecting to see, Jae quickly looked away from her and shut off his gift, trying to calm his rapidly beating heart. It took a few moments before Jae was able to look back at Riley once again, but even without his power active the memories were still too fresh in his mind to just ignore them. Standing fully, Jae leaned forward and cupped Riley's cheek in one hand before kissing her passionately. He couldn't help himself, even if he was at work it was impossible to ignore those memories when the source of them was right in front of him. If one of the nurses found him like this he could simply say that he was on lunch (which he had skipped due to the emergency earlier) and hopefully be able to keep his job. Right now though, that didn't matter to him, Riley was here and she mattered more to him than anything else in the world. ~~~ Riley Bates

It didn’t take very long for the purplette to notice her, but of course she hadn’t expected it to. Much like she always noticed when he entered a room, the same seemed to hold true for him. She didn’t think about the implications of such a thing. She didn’t acknowledge the way her stomach twisted in an almost pleasant way when he looked at her. And she obviously wouldn’t notice the way her own face lit up, even if she could feel the warm smile spreading across her features. Well, Jae was her friend, of course she was happy to see him. Even if he was… looking away from her? Thin, carefully plucked eyebrows furrowed slightly as confusion washed over her. Was something wrong with him? The worry, brief as it was, was more difficult to ignore. She could pretend like she didn’t care all she wanted, but the unpleasant twisting in her gut was impossible to ignore.
“Jae… are you…?” The question died on her lips as her cheek was cupped. The confusion on her features relaxed almost instantly at the gesture, and the worry in her stomach dissipated into nothingness as that kiss was given. This was normal, this was something she could handle. Well, perhaps not completely normal. They didn’t exactly make out at the hospital a lot, but whatever. Riley wasn’t the type of person to let any sort of rules or fear of losing a job get in the way of her having fun. She leaned into the kiss, her hand coming to rest on the much taller man’s chest as she deepened the kiss. She wasn’t exactly sure where it had come from, but she wasn’t complaining either. Jae had known her for long enough to know that she wasn’t going to say no to basically anything. If he wanted things to stop, if he was worried about losing his job, he would have to be the one to pull away. Already her fingers were curling into his shirt, giving it a small tug to bring him closer as she smirked softly into the kiss.
