Shane was right now rather baffled. It showed on the man’s face certainly with his clueless wide eyes and his slightly absentminded look. Cole had told him to go to the park and do something that was moderately useful. Like exercising- he said. Well…Shane didn’t really know what to do! There were a bunch of kids on the swing- and despite being a fully grown adult- he wanted on those things too! Pouting slightly as he let his head hang over the back of the bench. “Come onnnn- we’re all kids forever.” The man mumbled- staring at the trees behind him as if they were going to come alive and play ‘throw a child off the swing set’ but nothing obviously would happen. Kicking his legs out slightly- he looked quite unsightly sprawled on the bench he was occupying. Reaching up he quickly combed his hands through his hair before pulling himself into an actual normal sitting position- his hands in his lap. So- he was out on his own today? What could he do? What should he do? Something fun preferably- though it had to be not law-breaking or stupid and get him in trouble. Not that he couldn’t afford that…but Cole would find out and he was a whiny little thing when he started. Cute- but whiny. Brown eyes stared up at the beautiful sky and he gave a small half-hearted grin. Sumner City was exciting and boring. Tired and Awake. Suspicious and Open. Gluttonous but Charitable. He had seen many- but he had never taken the moment to actually learn about the people here. Cole showed him people could be surprisingly interesting. Ahhhh- if that raven haired ego heard that, he’s pretty sure the dork would burst. Shane laughed to himself- ignoring the feeling of being stared at. Wind sliced through the scenery and curled around him and ruffled his hair. He quickly shook his head to make it settle in its natural position. Well at least today was pretty nice! He could deal with anything today! A small bark at his feet made him freeze though. Carmel eyes stared back at him- and hell on earth was suddenly realized. Hell- it was sitting at his feet. He heard lightning signal its ominous appearance as it shocked his heart into frantic beating. “Oh no you-“And it bolted. “Dog!” He howled not unlike the canine as he quickly bolted off the bench and tore after the stupid canine that happened to be his familiar. “Get back here!” Shane was bordered on laughing at its energy and becoming Cole and cussing at it. The dog kept running- quickly through people as if it had no barriers- until it finally did stop by running into a leg. He stumbled- whining as he pulled away and flopped on his rump. A few whines were tilted upward as if it was to ask why he stopped. Tag:@ Deonte DeSoto

A small yawn accompanied by a stretch would be Deonte’s attempt to wake himself as he strolled through the park. A long night’s heist followed by drinks and a couple hours of sleep left him dazed for the next morning, yet rather than catch some extra z’s, the thief found himself walking around with a cup of coffee in his hand instead. What he planned to accomplish by being awake was questionable even to Deon, but there he was eyeing the various playground equipment regardless. Perhaps he expected to sit down on one of the swings and lean back up to stare against the sky. Perhaps he thought a few slides down those curly cue slides would wake him up. Perhaps these thoughts were just after thoughts, excuses for his impulsive nature before anything else. Yeah, the latter sounded about right, honestly.
Strolling around absently sipping the black coffee that was his liquid energy for the moment, Deonte noted the kids in the park seemed to prefer playing by themselves that day than hoard up into teams and play whatever sport came to them. The basketball court far off had two players who seemed to be in an intensive game of HORSE, and thus he would leave even them be for now. He continued on this way rather absently up until the sounds of barking caused him to start briefly. A single gold eye flashed around quickly as though he were expecting a security dog of some sort. However, when a pup came crashing up to him, Deonte could only stare down at it as it fell back and whined at him.
The force of dog wasn’t too much and didn’t knock him over, thankfully. However, there was still a questioning look on his features as he stared down at it. It was… cute? Sort of- ok, yeah, definitely. Briefly a gold eye would raise upon ears taking in the sounds of a follow up runner, but right after he caught sight of the human that had taken chase to the animal, a small smirk came to the man’s features. The kid certainly didn’t look like a police officer; all was good. Bending down to reach for the pup’s head, Deonte made to briefly scratch at the pup’s ears. “Hey bud, whatcha doin’?” he asked with a small grin.

Shane was not one to outwardly curse all the time (unlike Cole) but sometimes he wondered if the ‘beings’ that were playing this game gave him a dog that barely paid attention to him. He had theorized that these beings were nothing but sentient power that simply cloaked themselves in more human forms. They- as mass or these generalized beings simply chose a gender that fit them the best to fit in. He suspected they were probably creatures that didn’t fall in either gender area- but the slight pain in the back of his head kept him from figuring out more and using his thoughts to his advantage as was his own wish. As he weaved through people, his tennis shoes thudded against the ground as he barely kept the small puppy in his sight. It would be amazing what he could accomplish and learn if the fleabutt listened to him like a normal dog. The small brown puppy shook his head when he did fling himself into another person. It only took about ten seconds for Shane to catch up fully where he bent over slightly- resting his hands on his knees while he regained his breath. Finally- he caught up with the energetic thing- and the guy petting him didn’t look too pissed off. Though he did look out of place. The eyepatch looked like a rather butchered belt really. He must have really damaged his eye! Poor guy. However Shane was quickly pulled away from those thoughts as the man spoke. “I’m so sorry! I just can’t keep a hold of him!” He tried to give a grin to the man as he straightened himself up. It was a bit hard- and his lungs were burning- but he should make a good impression! “I hope he didn’t bother you-“ Shane breathed out as he walked a few steps closer, knelt behind the puppy, and held out his hand with a bright grin. “Shane Walters- nice to meet you.” It was a rather casual introduction- but he felt it suited the situation. “Familiars are just plain weird sometimes, ya know?” Was next as he gestured absently to the dog. The puppy however was a coy dog and he eagerly yipped and thrust his head against the stranger’s hand and tried to sit on his foot as he found the man perfectly fine and hardly a threat. Well – these two weren’t the detectives of the century though. Tag:@ Deonte DeSoto

Fingers rolled through the short fur of the pup as Deonte continued to pet it, and the gesture didn’t diminish as the pup rolled into a sitting position. Though he wasn’t too terribly intimidated at the thought of being bit by the small hound, Deonte wouldn’t take the chance of detaining it any further should it run right then and there. He’d pacify it for now at least, though, as it suited him. As the assumed owner finally caught up and bent over to catch his breath, Deon glanced up at him and offered a small grin. “Ya lose a dog?” he asked very briefly.
A small chuckle resounded from the silver haired man when the apology was given before a knowing nod came. More absently now, Deon simply pet the pup enjoying the feel of fur in his hands. Though a good number of dogs tended to have rough coats, puppies sometimes still had that first soft fur, and as far as Deon could tell, this one still did. As the kid drew closer and extended a hand, Deon slowly forced himself into a full stand again and took the hand briefly in a shake. “Deon,” he replied giving neither his full name or his surname as was habit. No need to give extra info right? Even if this Shane Walters did, heh. Ya seem too trustin’ kid Deonte briefly assumed as his lips parted some at the second comment. “Definitely,” he snickered briefly before glancing around as if perhaps the spider that had a habit of resting on his head were going to appear.
Sure enough, the large arachnid flickered into existence standing atop Deon’s head. “We are not!” she insisted in a huff before scuttling from side to side through hair as Deonte reached up to try and pull her off. “You humans are ‘just weird’,” she proclaimed thereafter.

“Ya- he’s always getting away from me. Like a kid in a maze!” Shane laughed- not really bothered fully at the situation. The dog he knew would always come back- it just was a chance of getting the stupid thing close enough to where he could grab it and it would disappear again. He was pretty sure Collin’s familiar was cuter and easier to deal with- but considering Collin was also cute was probably the reason. A nagging voice in the back of his head told him he should be warier of people he just met, but hey- he liked dogs! What bad guy liked dogs? Plus he had like silver hair. He was probably…fifty or something. Giving the man a firm handshake- he was pleased to at least meet this guy. Deon was his name huh? He met a few people before with that name…not that he could remember a lot thanks to his wish. The puppy easily bounced back to Shane to sit at his feet and stare up innocently- as if completely aware of what it did but so grin-inducing cute that he thought he could get away with it. Considering Shane had the attention span of a gnat on good days- that was usually true. Shane briefly looked up surprised when he heard a voice- a female one. Oh god a spider. Oh a familiar? That was really cool! Shane grinned, slipping one of his hands in his pocket. “Yeah, but at least we’re supposed to talk.” He commented easily. The puppy barked once at the other familiar’s voice, wagging his tail. “So what’s your familiar’s name? – Or are you going to tell me?” He quickly addressed the both of them in a rather cheery and childish manner. “I haven’t named mine yet- probably somethin’ like Rascal! He’s kinda like one you know?” At this point, he was just talking to fill air and in general just chat with someone. Tag:@ Deonte DeSoto

Deon grinned. He could imagine such a feisty puppy getting away from just about anyone. There was something about having four legs that tended to make ya faster than with two. They were probably just lower to the ground. That was the excuse he would keep, anyways. Now, had Deonte known that Shane assumed him to be old, he might have fidgeted to say the least of it and retracted all the positives he’d been racking up for the kid— to say the least of it.
Letting his arm fall back down when the handshake had ended, Deonte was content for a moment- only to have that silly spider appear on his head. Managing to snag up one of her legs before she had a chance to scuttle away, Deon pried her from his hair. She dangled for only a second before managing to attach several legs to his hand and then flip herself on top of it. Briefly waving or perhaps shaking one arm at Deon in a manner not unlike a fist shake of disdain, he let out of humph before standing more upright than before. Deonte snorted. “We’re supposed to talk too,” the arachnid assured before glancing at the puppy. If a spider could look skeptical, that tarantula certainly did.
Deonte paused upon hearing the question. He’d never considered naming the tarantula, and for a moment, he stared down at it curiously. “Eh, haven’t really thought of ah name,” he said with a grin and a shrug as his vision raised back to Shane. “Maybe Arachaphobia,” he sneered a little at the spider who seemed to shake with her entire being in ‘no’. Grinning after a moment, Deon glanced at the pup. “Rascal eh? Or maybe Chase?” he chuckled a little remembering the run.

The puppy might have been smart enough to communicate other than barking- heck, Collin’s cat might have been able to as well. Some talked- but he remembered running into a few cops with animal familiars that didn’t talk either. Maybe it was just a fifty-fifty thing? Eighty-Twenty or something? He was never good at percentages –or statistics – or was it probability? Inwardly he shrugged it off- since he didn’t honestly care. It wasn’t some scientific experiment recording jack anything. Shane slowly tilted his head as he watched the large spider. He wasn’t a fan of tarantulas- but he didn’t hate them either. They’re not like those porcelain dolls that stare endlessly into your soul and can recite anything that you throw at them. Supposed to? He looked down at the puppy who was currently scratching his ear with his back leg- almost curiously. Could he talk and just not wanted to? “Well most people I’ve seen really don’t have ones that talk. My friend has a cat who doesn’t either…and there’s really cool old dude I know who has a really awesome dog one that doesn’t talk...Plus how do spiders even talk?” He couldn’t actually read the body language of a spider- if a spider had body language. “It’s really kind of random.” The brunette gave a small blink- before grinning stupidly at the joke. “Hahaha!” The janitor-man gave a rather easy going and light hearted laugh. “That’s perfect! Both names really!” Looking down at the puppy he quickly dropped into a crouch, staring at the blond dog. “Which name do you like boy?” The man asked rather cheerfully. The puppy stared rather blankly at him and Shane shared the same look as the two honestly didn’t know how to address each other properly. “I like Chase…but I think Collin would have a fit if you were named that. He’s picked out weird names like out of baby books and stuff. He wants a ‘fitting’ name.” The boy almost pouted. “ He’s like a girl picking out a baby name or something. God help him if he has a kid.” The man joked- but stood up again to tilt his head up a little at the old man. “When he comes to one name- I guess he’ll decide for me.” Shane said with a laugh. “Maybe your spider should choose her name and make it easy on the both of us.” Tag:@ Deonte DeSoto

There was a strange shake of the arachnid though Deon couldn’t tell if it was a physical comment or a dislike of the cold that brushed by. He simply grinned down at her a little too snidely as Shane talked about seeing variety among familiars. Two long thin ‘arms’ crossed themselves in response as a series of eyes somehow managed to look defiantly back at her human. Had Deon not been sure she wouldn’t bite to kill him by then, he probably would have been scrambling to shake her off least she bite. Those suckers were poisonous weren’t they? Well, maybe because she was a familiar she was different? He didn’t want to take chances either way.
Deon, meanwhile, was grinning wider now at his familiar’s expense. A spider named after a fear of spiders was pretty great right? About as fitting as a dog named Chase. Watching as Shane crouched down, Deon folded into a crouch as well. As the puppy stared blankly at his human and the human shared the same response back, he couldn’t help but allow his features to fall into a smirk instead. The boy went on describing someone who preferred specific book names, and a small snort came. “A name’s just ah name,” he was sure. It didn’t have to mean anything, and in the end they didn’t so whatever right? A small laugh escaped at the possibility of such a person having a kid. “Sounds tough,” he replied before glancing down at the spider. “Name?” he asked with an eyebrow poised in question.
“Charlotte,” she replied simply after a moment. A gold eye blinked in confusion. Was it really just that easy to ask? Had he remembered the story Charlotte’s Web, it would have made more sense, but right then and there, again it was just a name.

Shane was oblivious to the spider-familiar’s discomfort with him pointing out what he found obvious. That tended to be most times anyways. He looked down briefly at the puppy- wondering if the little brat could talk. Or if Collin’s cat could talk. It’s not like animals walked around acting out the scenes from the Lion King every day. Or he might find cats the totally most awesome thing that showed up ever if everyone started singing the Circle of Life. Who wouldn’t ya know? “Well yeah-“Shane agreed. “Sometimes a name is just a name. But he likes to think that matching the name with the personality of the baby or animal matters. ‘Specially when they don’t have a voice to make it themselves. It kinda makes sense when he says it.” The brunette shrugged. “I think he would probably pick out a good one though for his.” The brunette briefly blinked at the spider when it said her name. “Huh, Charlotte? Like in the book? That’s…really cool!” A beam spread over his face. “Maybe I should name my dog Air Bud or something.” The obvious references to the ridiculous children movie was obvious- and maybe a joke could have been tactfully made about Charlotte’s Web being a movie…but Shane was neither that smart or eloquent in his jokes. Well, if someone else was there, they may have gotten it. “I think that’s a cool name though, can you ask my familiar what his name is?- Or are you just like a special spider with special powers to specially do things?” Tag:@ Deonte DeSoto

Deonte was having trouble imagining how anyone could name a baby solely on personality matters. People, and hell maybe even animals, changed. Would a name then be unfit later in life? Or were they trying to impose expectations on a kid with a name’s meaning? Either way, it sounded too complicated and not worth near the effort involved. Nope; he’d rather just go for a random name than anything else. “’s kinda weird but whatever floats yer boat, I guess,” he smirked making a nonchalant shrug. As far as he was concerned, as long as others weren’t trying to rename him or something, they could give whatever name they wanted.
The spider seemed briefly surprised that her human didn’t recognize the reference and even more surprised that this strange kid did. “Yes!” she exclaimed after a second’s hesitation throwing two arms up in the air. Deon still didn’t get it— and his face reflected this in a slow subtle deadpan of confusion. It was only when Shane paralleled it with Air Bud that he got that it was some deeper reference. He recognized that movie from childhood and knew it well enough. Brightening a bit, he couldn’t help the wild grin on his features. “Air Bud’d be a great name!” he replied lighter than before eyeing the puppy with a newer light.
At the question, the spider looked about as thoughtful as a tarantula actually could before glancing at the puppy. Uttering a briefly shrill note to catch the familiar’s attention, she transitioned then to the familiar general language of sorts. She knew not off the bat what faction he belonged to, but she would at the very least try and communicate anyway. “You have a name, yes?” she asked regarding the puppy. Deonte, meanwhile, winced at the sound wondering how such an overall small creature could produce it before frowning confused at the strange utterances that were now escaping from his familiar.

Shane could only grin and tilt his head. Cole was weird, but Shane found him fascinating for that reason. Laughing lightly at the spider’s exclamation. He guessed he got that joke faster than Deonte did. That was really cool though. Charlotte was a cool name. He liked Charlotte’s Web for the book, though…he couldn’t really remember what exactly happened with it. His head told him he read it before but the wish he had to forget made it hard for him to remember beyond something about a pig and a spider. He didn’t want to give himself a headache figuring it out as well. “It would, wouldn’t it?” He laughed- though he almost jumped out of his skin when the spider made that noise. Brown eyes wide he stared at Charlotte surprised as he tried to figure out…what exactly she just did. “Uh…did you just make a dial up sound?” He asked Charlotte a bit confused, not realizing she was trying to speak to the puppy at his feet. The puppy glanced up briefly only giving the spider a glance before making a strange sound himself. Shane’s eyes went towards the puppy rather confused. Was it a language? ‘I don’t really.’ Was the simple garbled answer back, as he wasn’t able to fully understand her either. Shane looked back and forth to the other- his wheels turning. “It’s a language. Huh.” Was all he could really find words for, though he was fascinated that the familiars had their own languages. It really should have been obvious, but he couldn't really find words for it. Tag:@ Deonte DeSoto

A dial up noise. That was what that sound was! Deonte wasn’t even going to fight the laugh that was ushering passed his lips at that. Oh man, that was friggin’ hysterical. When was the last time he had heard that ancient as hell sound? It had to have been eons ago! Gritting his teeth a little, he tried very briefly to mimic the sound back at the spider. The tarantula, however, seemed to give almost no notice, her attention being almost solely put to the puppy somehow.
As yet another strange sound reverberated from the puppy in return, Deonte’s head jutted back a bit. He didn’t know what he had been expecting, but that certainly wasn’t it. Shane’s words had him glancing at the brunette briefly before returning his gaze to the familiars. “ ‘S weird,” he commented reaching one hand back to run through a lock of silvery hair and rest it on the back of his neck as an afterthought. “Ya’d think they were aliens ‘r somethin’,” he smirked at the thought.
The tarantula squinted, trying to process what was being said. One thing was for sure, however. They were not from the same origin- not that she really expected such a strange kid to fall into the Criminal class or anything. Finally grasping the general meaning, she gave a small tilt of head and a look of interest. “Just puppy then,” she settled simply, scuttling one way and another in her own strange indignation on this fact.
