"Morals are for stiffs and I ain't got time for that!"
History
The sixteen year old Shanice wouldn’t know whom her baby daddy was for several months into pregnancy, and even then Tyrone wasn’t looking or a marriage or a baby. In fact, he’d be incarcerated for assault charges of numerous persons but a week before the baby was due. That was fine, she had a parent to give the baby to and go back to partying and drinking anyways! Born into this situation, the baby, Deonte, seemed destined for a rough life. Growing up with a mother that was rarely around and an aging grandmother that could scarcely take care of him, the young boy would learn poverty and anxiety early on.
As it was, money always seemed to be the issue. Whether it was buying food for the week or purchasing clothes, things that required monastery exchange were never in excess, and from an early age, Deon became aware of this. As a growing boy, he was almost always hungry, and whenever he spotted something he wanted in the store, he could never get it. It only got worse when he started school, and Mommy came home pregnant again. Finances were especially tight that year, but the school took at least some of the burden during that time. For the young boy, it only meant his peers would have something to pick on him for- like the fact that he didn’t have a cool lunchbox like they did. Very often during this time, Deonte would be sent home from school for fighting- mostly because of this.
Mommy would become pregnant several more times in the course of the years to come all by numerous fathers whom never stayed. Instead, his mother would cash the checks and go back to partying. It was left to his grandmother and later Deonte himself to take care of his siblings as best he could. More often than not, he proved to be a terrible older brother with no interest in carrying his mother’s baggage around though he did have a somewhat decent relationship with his first sister Deja during this time frame.
As time went on, Deon got into the wrong crowd, made some wrong choices, and ended up breaking into an old man’s house. What none of the boys in the group who had orchestrated the theft expected was the old man was both home and armed. Deonte would experience his first graze with death when the man shot a bullet right past his ear grazing it badly. The group would be caught eventually, and Deonte was charged as a juvenile much to the horror of his grandmother and the disinterest of his mother. That go around, however, he would be released with a minor probation that included cleaning up the trash in the town, nothing major – or so everyone kept saying.
It only got worse through middle school. As Deonte grew, he grew strong and bold. Rebellious towards his family, defiant of his mother, grandmother, and hellish towards his baby sister, he swore he didn’t need anyone or anything. His grandmother swore the day he hit eighteen, she would kick him out onto the streets, and he swore right back that he’d make it fine as a rapper and basketball player. In the latter case, as he became aware he’d never reach over 5’9’’, that dream somewhat died, but hey, it was still pretty fun. The only thing school ever had going for him was mathematics to which he had an unnatural inclination. It seemed numbers came easy to him, and because of this, he became readily skilled in minor loan sharking at a rather young age. What was chunk change scraped up off the streets in one form or another soon became a surprisingly nice sum of money. With that, however, he started hoarding.
Unable to part with any sum of money or anything, he took to stealing things and holding them away often becoming incredibly vicious towards anyone who happened to try and get between himself and money. Women, cars, everything? Nah, he’d cling the gold and silver he found. It was far prettier. As time went on, he was caught several times for stealing, and finally in his senior year of high school, he was put in jail never to finish despite what promise he might have had at a school for mathematics. Separated from his belongings, Deon would find himself twisting and contorting. He took to gambling and became very good at it— that and cheating in gambling. When he was finally released, he took to the casinos instead wherein he’d cheat his way into a large sum of money.
Enough was never enough, however. He wanted more and more, and never once did he turn back to the grandmother that raised him or his siblings – except to rob them when it suited him. However, with his compulsion towards money growing, he also grew increasingly paranoid. Jail time had taught him the darker sides of the world, and he took up arms to ‘defend himself’ initially— which then became him being a sharpshooter later. From there, it only spiraled more as years churned on.
He'd been on a 'business trip' in Georgia when the 'incident' went down. Before him appeared a figure who boasted the ability to give more money than any other- but over an obscure time interval. A wallet was bestowed upon him that would have up to twenty dollars in it every time he opened it regardless of what had or had not been in it before, and while this was certainly great- it wasn't in one large chunk that he could hoard away, much to his actual disdain on the matter. He hoarded it away regardless, however, as it was his now- along with a bizarre marking over his right eye and the power to turn invisible for certain lengths of time. He certainly liked that a bit more than his wish being granted to say the very least. Hey- what more could a thief want but invisibility?
Insignia Level 1
Invisibility – Level 1 – For fifteen minutes, Deonte is capable of making himself visibly invisible. It manipulates light in order to make him ‘disappear’ to the sight but not to the auditory or olfactory senses. His body temperature is also not masked nor are his footsteps should he be in motion. Things that detect motion such as laser beams are also able to detect him still. The insignia mark is over his right eye in the form of an all seeing eye pyramid, and he hides it with an eye patch. Removing the eye patch and opening the right eye will cause the power to activate.
The passive is a tarantula that is sometimes seen sitting on Deonte’s head or shoulder (she prefers his head but will sit on his shoulder when he fusses about his hair). Very often she’ll prefer to tease Deon than help him.
Extra
Deon or Dante are both acceptable nicknames with the prior more common than the latter. He calls those who insist on using his full name 'stiffs'.
When he’s not focusing on stealing or something pertaining to it, he’s an utter klutz capable of tripping over lines on the floor with style.
(Half) Siblings: Deja (sister), Danika (sister), Diamond (sister), Dexter (brother)
He's a mixed race of Black/African American, Italian, Irish, and French, the first being the predominate.
