Golden eyes had been staring for quite some time at the screen, the boy they belonged to already feeling the strain of that and finally deciding to giving it a break. Formulas, annotations, rough sketches drawn on a very basic and standard program that was default to his laptop had been all he had seen for quite some time, only taking a break while changing from the library to the outside. He figured he needed some fresh air, almost feeling claustrophobic really being cooped up among bookshelves. He should be used to it by now though, having spent most of his life like that, but when it came to being outside of his own "cage", it always prompted him to look for the outside. That day was an especially good one for that as well, with the blue sky clear above, the cool breeze and the campus just as lively as always. It really was a good day, or so the boy thought to himself as he gazed around and smiled calmly.
Underneath one of the bigger trees in campus Tobias sat, waving at a small group that passed by with a bright grin on his face. They responded with a wave of their own, putting on a friendly smile as they moved on. Everyone from his class, at least, knew him after but a handful of days. He had his energetic and bright disposition to thank for that, but it wasn't like it was all that relevant. They were acquaintances, not friends. Though they were friendly to him and he didn't exactly had any reason to complain about them, they still seemed so... Distant really. Comparing to Cecil, his relationships with these others seemed so frail. Of course no one could be compared to Cecil considering all he has done for Tobias, but friendship was supposed to be pretty straight forward, right? The college student thought so at least and from his findings he just discerned "acquaintances" would fit most, if not all, of those people.
Maybe to people, it was enough to just being friendly. They only had to know their name, be nice, extend a hand every now and then to make themselves and the other person feel better and they'd be friends. To Tobias though? It just seemed to take a bit more. Was he wrong? Was he weird for thinking that friends needed to be more than that? Some seemed to make people their friends right off the bat. He found that preposterous. Although people did react more positive when treated in a friendly manner, thus why he eventually adapted and became who he was.
Stretching and yawning, Tobias leaned back against the trunk of the tree. His eyes were still going through the process of adapting to this whole "insignia" business. It was fascinating to him really, how something illogical was currently in him and he actually was able to use it. Shame it had its drawbacks, his sight and brain payment for any abuse. He wanted to study it really, but with such a short duration he couldn't exactly maintain it long enough for observation. It was still a very useful ability though, they all seemed to be from what he had seen thus far. Fascinating indeed and it certainly pushed him into studying them and that strange phenomenon that occurred.
As he looked up at the leaves and branches, his mind began to wander, the boy not even noticing as a girl was making his way to him for some reason. That tended to happen, his mind just wrapping itself around a certain subject and just making him abstract from the world outside. At times it felt like the only one that did exist was the one inside his mind... As odd as that sounded. He guessed he was weird after all.

Where on earth was Akane?! – Yukiko grumbled mentally. Well, if she thought back on how all this mess started, she might be in a better mood. The almost out of high school girl was looking for her ‘sister’. She had gotten off early after a prank gone right and she was pleased to take all the secret credit and rumors for it. Stupid girls were thinking just because she was a ‘foreigner’ that some jokes could pass by. Oh no, that wouldn’t do. Let them think they were devils or demons, but she was going to make sure they had a good reason. Her – her in her infamous glory. A devil with bright red hair who sought out annoying little rats and tortured them between her icy claws! If wasn’t obvious to her distant mind- the creative writing course she was taking was really hitting home for her. Misty curled around her feet as she waited for her master to move. The smoky cat was holding a bit more tangible form while her tail was curled around the redhead’s calf. There was still some black mist that was more like dry ice fogging than anything else- but she still looked partially solid. She saw nothing of these thoughts- only the manic grin on her mother’s face as she contemplated something that Misty honestly didn’t know or care about- as long as her mother was happy. If mother was happy- she was happy after all. Akane however should be out of class- but Yukiko, was actually quite much lost. She knew the school layout, but she didn’t see Akane anywhere- and the idiot girl forgot to turn her phone on as always. So the red haired high schooled student didn’t have a clue what was actually happened to the woman she thought was her sister. While Yuki knew Akane wasn’t in trouble- Akane did get dragged into the most random of things since her backbone was flimsier than a wet tree branch. As she walked around the outside of the campus- she avoided people who were chatting and in general looking rather speculative instead looking for someone who just looked like they were doing nothing. Yukiko was awkward enough to begin with- so she didn’t want to have to deal with someone who didn’t have time. Misty weaved through her legs as if it was nothing but instinct. Finally- Yuki found someone that looked absolutely bored or at least not doing anything of importance. Silver eyes gleamed as she quickly trotted over to him. Akane was most likely in the library or in that one class she had no idea where it was located. American History- they already learned their own, she didn’t want to have to learn another! However she swallowed as much awkwardness as she could muster and stopped only two steps away from the black haired boy. “I need help.” The redhead commented bluntly- but sourly, as if she hated asking for such a favor. “My sister is somewhere here- and I don’t know where one of her classes are. Can you give me directions to the American History class with-“there was a pause, Misty staring straight at the black haired boy with eerily molten gold orbs- watching him. “It was some professor with a bunch of r’s in his name or something.” Yuki gestured her hand to the side a little to show her uncaring towards the topic but moved to rest it on her hip. If he couldn’t answer her- she would just move on and try to find someone who could tell her like a security guard. Tag:@ Tobias Higgins

Tobias wondered what he was going to do today. He had plenty of free time to spare considering he'd only go back to classes in the late afternoon, so he had to find something to entertain himself with until then since going back home wasn't exactly an option. Once he entered his and Cecil's home he would always lose all motivation to go outside, wanting to relax. He was better off finding something to do on campus, or the area around it. The caffés were nice, he supposed he could grab a beverage there, maybe a sundae even. Hmm, the thought of something sweet did spark his interest as he stretched and he did deserve it for putting so much work into this solo project. That settled it then, he'd just move his location to one of those establishments and gorge in one of those lovely chocolate syrup covered delights.
When the girl declared she needed help, Tobias finally snapped out to reality, blinking up at the redhead as he was slightly surprised she had come out of nowhere. For a bit, he stared up at her while she talked, golden eyes looking upon her with interest. She was really pretty, the boy thought to himself, going through his mind to try and find if he had seen her before around campus. If he did, he didn't remember as he would be sure he'd remember this girl and her piercing silver eyes. Plus her hair seemed quite unique in its shade of color, along with the fact that she didn't exactly seem to be from around these parts, most likely foreigner. Her accent was spot on though, with a few subtle slips here and there but impressively deceptive. If he had ever met or seen her, he was sure he'd remember.
He couldn't help but remain silent and look up at her as if in awe. Though he heard all she said and processed it, he was just too occupied being intrigued with her for some reason. Although he forced himself to attention, rubbing the back of his head with a calm smile as he replied, "O-oh! Sorry, was distracted. Hmm, you said American History class? Richard Rainart is the professor in charge of that class," he chuckled because of her comment regarding his name having a "bunch of r's". "I'll do better than give you directions. I can take you there if you want. Just give me a sec to pack this up," he smiled to her, pushing his glasses up and beginning to store his laptop inside the yellow and black schoolbag.
When he was done, he simply stood up energetically, patting his rear and back so as to remove any dirt or leaves from his trousers. Grinning to her, he gestured with his hand as he said, This way. It's in the building on the other side of campus." The college student straightened the strap upon his shoulder, beginning to walk calmly towards their goal.
A thought came to mind though, something Cecil commented a few days ago and they had an extensive talk about. He had asked Tobias why the boy seemed to never try to get a girlfriend. Quite frankly, for all his social interactions and ease with talking to everyone of any gender, Tobias was actually still inexperienced when it came to the whole dating scenery, so he wasn't exactly aware of what the best way to court a girl was. This led Cecil to have a small crash course in the topic and it was confusing at best. Show you are interested without being interested? Don't care that you want to get to know the girl you seem to be interest in? What in the world was that? It made no logical sense to him. Improvising in his own way would probably be the best strategy. After all, it made no sense to not show how he was.
She seemed interesting, this stranger. Plus she seemed physically fit and was appealing to the boy. Should he begin a conversation and get to know her? Even if it wouldn't go anywhere, the boy would at least get to know an intriguing person. At least to him she seemed to be. So why not shouldn't he meet her? As Cecil put it, he needed to start looking at the world instead of his computer if he wanted to meet someone that made him happy. He wanted that very much, his dud wish unable to be fulfilled so he wouldn't cling to it and would make his own happiness.
Turning to smile at her, he figured he'd start a conversation, leading with asking her her name he supposed. "Name's Tobias. I've never seen you around campus before. What're you taking, if I may ask?", he questioned as he smiled at her, figuring that was good enough and would probably get a conversation flowing out of.

When the boy paused for god knows how long, she almost moved on. Yukiko was not a patient girl by any means. Misty however seemed perfectly fine waiting for him and keeping her inky tail wrapped around the girl’s leg. She briefly felt like she was being analyzed for the fifteenth millionth time. Psychologists did that to her trying to ‘take care of the problem’ that her parents caused, so she was well versed in that stare. However she didn’t put too much on the man since she just came up out of nowhere. Finally when he did answer- he seemed moderately competent and it pleased her. Good, she didn’t have to deal with more than a few people today. Akane had better run from her- because she didn’t want to find the red haired girl in a rage after people. It was bad enough when she had to deal with the highschool kids. She couldn’t wait to graduate. She wanted to get out of there as quickly as efficiently possible. “Thanks.” She finally forced out- the word sounding heavy on her tongue- making her want to gag at the idea of continuous conversation, but she was getting better. If Akane could make friends- she could at least be decent. Misty gave him a small glance- sitting down as he got ready. She had little idea why they were asking this person when they could have asked someone in charge…but whatever her mother wanted. “Of course it is.” She muttered hearing it was across the campus. Honestly ridiculous in her opinion. Yukiko however threaded her hair behind her ear and followed exactly three steps behind him- Misty moving to weave in and out of her legs as normal. She didn’t go out of her way to make conversation but neither was the immigrant exactly opposed to the idea. While further conversation about him was a bane- she could at least breach the topics with what she liked. “Yukiko.” The girl answered a bit roughly- not used to introducing herself in such a way. “I’m a year away from this campus. I’m in high school- but I take dual college and high school classes.” It made it easier to get in, even if the classes were harder. “I haven’t decided what major I will be taking though.” Probably business- since it was the most beneficial one she could think of- but others might deter her. “What about you?” It smoothly was directed back to him and she gave a small mental pat on her shoulder for conversing with other human beings other than Akane. She deserved a good dose of sweets. Tag:@ Tobias Higgins

The girl certainly was different from what Tobias was used to dealing with, as even her expression of gratitude seemed... Heavy, so to speak. It wasn't that he thought it wasn't genuine, just that it seemed she had forced it out. She didn't seem to have that many people to thank now did she? regardless, it was just him over-analyzing things as usual, or just peering further into the water instead of just shallowly as everyone else did, even when there was nothing there to see. A habit, he supposed. He smiled calmly to the little "spirit" while he was packing everything, finding it to be very cute actually. He had also chuckled when he noticed her muttering when she found out it was on the other side of the campus. Well, she should've asked right off the bat when she entered that place as security in the front gate was sure to send her in the right direction, but he figured if she had he wouldn't get the chance to meet her.
Always the social butterfly, but in all honesty, he enjoyed meeting individuals that didn't fall on the "normal" category. They were much more interesting to socialize with and this girl seemed to be interesting, right off the bat. Was it because she was foreigner?... Could be as he didn't exactly know all that many. Still, she needed help and hopefully by the end of this small ordeal she'd want to befriend him.
She seemed to keep her distance from him for some reason, making him walk at a slower pace to see if she'd walk beside him. It was troublesome looking above his shoulder to talk to her and he did want to talk to see if they'd establish a line of communication to get a conversation flowing. He highly doubt she'd befriend him if they walked all over campus without breathing a word to each other. He gave her companion a small smile as he found her endearing and how she weaved with each stride. They were such fascinating entities and if Archimedes wasn't so... Surly... He would've called him out to join them. But the owl didn't have that much interest in socializing with everyone, plus he was most likely sleeping and he always woke up with the worst of moods.
He blinked up to look at her when she said her name, the boy smiling to her and replying, "Yukiko hmm? That's a pretty name. Hmm... Japanese I think? I don't want to insult you with an assumption though," he chuckled and bowed his head slightly, replying, "Pleasure to make your acquaintance either way, Yukiko," he grinned to her as he continued to walk.
So she was an high school student? He almost didn't believe her, but she had little reason to lie. She looked older than she appeared to be though, in the best of ways of course. "I thought you were a college student to be honest," he commented with a chuckle, amused at the situation but smiled to her politely as he replied, "Well, I hope this college can accommodate your choice. The teachers aren't the most pleasant, but this is college after all so that's expected," he adjusted his back up by the strap, still trying to slow down so they'd walk side to side as his neck would start to complain if he continued to look behind him whenever he talked with her. He tried to do it discreetly of course, lest she thought of him as a weirdo. But most people tended to get that impression first due to how he behaved.
"Hmm, I'm trying to take chemistry and biochemistry, although due to the recent events it's become a challenge. Thankfully the computers still work, which is a relief," he chuckled and smiled to her. Well, this was going alright he supposed. He wondered how Cecil was so fluent when it came to this sort of thing, but he wasn't that bad himself, right? His friend just seemed to be more confident in that it seemed. Oh well, as long as he could handle a conversation decently he didn't care, even if Cecil playfully commented on his own and Tobias'.
He looked down at her insignia and he smiled to her, asking, "You're very endearing. What's your name?" He figured to ask Yukiko would most likely be an insult to the spirit, as most were capable of communication. But one never knows and Archimedes has already commented that they weren't all alike. They really were interesting and just as mysterious. But they made for great companions and they were as useful as the abilities they were connected with. Ah but Yukiko most likely didn't enjoy the topic as much as he did. Oh well, at least he could continue the conversation with the two, making it easier.

She noticed he was trying to keep pace with her and establish eye contact. She was preferring not to do such a thing because that implied she had good social skills and wanted to talk. She did not have very good social skills and would rather bowl someone over and claim victory over her territory. She raised an eyebrow a little at him when they started walking. Misty had stayed quiet- unsure of what her mother was doing still. She got a smile from the raven haired man and Misty enjoyed that- but she wasn’t sure her mother was okay. “Japanese.” She affirmed. Pretty her name wasn’t- but it did match to the ridiculous snow power she had. ‘Snow child’. Her parents sure did have an imagination. At least she wasn’t called Momoko or something. She didn’t do peaches. “Pleasure to meet you as well, Tobias.” The heavy words left her lips and she almost frowned- but didn’t. The words were foreign to her, but not as foreign as they were before. Meeting many people in high school, the words were rather common. “I’m sixteen.” She answered dryly to his amused statement. She wasn’t sure why she looked older or like a college student but she wasn’t sure if it was a compliment or insult. “Hopefully. My sister enjoys it here. She’s met plenty of people.” The redhead’s nose wrinkled slightly in annoyance. Akane was so happy around these people and she wished to avoid them at all costs. She noticed him falling back but he seemed to be the cheery type. Biochemistry and chemistry? Hell, she didn’t even want to take veterinary science or business which were the two she found most interesting. “…Sounds way out of my league.” She confessed – or said –rather bluntly. She didn’t have a complex about not matching up to some of these freaky American geniuses. No wonder he was weird. Oh well. At least he was just a nerd and not a creeper…hopefully. “Business and Veterinary Science are my two options. I’m not sure which one I wish to choose.” Yukiko was honest about it at least. Misty blinked up, curious at him. “Misty. Mom named me Misty.” The familiar chirped. “Mama, what does en-deer-ing mean?” Silver eyes didn’t even look down. “I think he means it as cute.” She murmured to the familiar. Misty smiled a little. “Thank you mister. Mama is cute too.” Silver eyes rolled just a hint since she didn’t even want to argue with the cat that she was ‘tough as nails’ and not cute. Oh, well that was good, he was correct on his assumption. He didn't want to insult her in any way. He gave her a small smile and a nod when she replied to him, glad she thought so as he was actually looking forward to befriending her for some reason. He didn't know why, but it was probably due to her being, well, foreigner, which spiked his interest to meet her and learn about different cultures and such. plus, she was a cute girl and didn't seem to be like every other girl around those parts, it was like a breath of fresh air really, as strange as that sounded. He guessed he was pretty strange, wasn't he? Still, he'd hope she wouldn't dislike him.
He was still shocked that she was sixteen, after all, she just had an air of maturity around here? He couldn't exactly explain it, but he was almost certain she was already in college. he rubbed the back of his head, still slightly embarrassed, adding to his statement as he chuckled, "Well it wasn't to offend you or anything, you just look older, more mature than your age suggests?", he gave a slight nervous chuckle, deciding it was just best if he just dropped it. Nodding, he commented, "Well, hopefully you'll enjoy it as well like she does," smiling to her before looking out at front for a bit.
He chuckled slightly, scratching his cheek, as it wasn't easy at all, characterized by the fact that only a handful of people actually attended the classes regarding those subjects. "Well it requires a lot of studying. It's troublesome, but achievable," he smiled to her when she mentioned her two options, pondering on them for a bit before admitting with a chuckle, "The first one would certainly be something I'd struggle entirely with. I'm not all that good with that sort of subject. Veterinary science sounds very interesting though. I'm sure you can do either or both even," he nodded. He was terrible with business, but anything science related would fall right on his alley.
Her familiar was so endearing, having him chuckle when she replied. "Indeed, you look very cute," ah he should probably keep the words he used comprehensible enough. He could only laugh lightly when she made the comment regarding her "mama", Yukiko's reaction amusing to him as well. "Well I think your mama would rather be called something else. I personally would use appealing, in terms of appearance, and personality-wise I'd say strong. And you can call me Tobias or Toby, Misty," he chuckled, wanting to pet the endearing one but figuring her mama would prefer to get things moving along. He didn't even look back to Yukiko with that though, as if stating a truth that needed no validation. He spoke his mind way too often and most of the times he didn't even notice it.

More mature than her age suggested? Well when you get kidnapped and played around with like an oversized punching doll, maturity is something you develop very quickly. The tone mentally was sardonic and sarcastic- but she didn’t say it aloud. Akane, despite her age difference was less mature than Yukiko. However both of them showed immaturity towards different standards and situations, leaving them about equal. It was why she felt she got along with the raven haired girl. “I get it a lot.” It bounced back and forth between being a compliment or an insult, so she got used to it rather quickly. “Hopefully.” It was almost airy amusement, knowing her intense dislike for this rigid way of learning. She would rather learn from an actual person doing these things then staring at a bunch of formulas and other bull that she would never use in her life. She was dreading the Humanities course that Akane loved and she about snapped on. To his next statement she gave a small eyebrow, not sure how to say it before he spoke again. He was a giant nerd. In a way it relaxed her- since he really wasn’t a threat to her. She could punch him in the groin and throw him over a staircase with ease and he would probably just laugh. “It sounds like you’ll get there.” Inadvertently avoiding the giant geek label but also telling him he sounded competent. “Business really is just a bunch of bull. Nothing that they teach you in the courses match up to real experience. I’ve seen how businesses work. I suppose the one thing it does right is make you suck-up to professors.” Her way of saying it was crude, but completely correct in her head as she chuckled. “I enjoy veterinary science. It’s a bit out of my normal range but here it’s an actual achievable and sustainable job.” Not that it wasn’t in Japan, but Americans spent a lot more money on their pets than most people she actually knew in Japan. She supposed the most attached animals she saw were the cats in the fields with their elderly companions. It struck a chord in her that she wanted to have that for herself. She guessed that was where Misty came from. She however preened just enough to make it obvious that she quite enjoyed the compliment. Not so much about the adorable, but if a stranger could see that she was strong and tough, she would take it. “I’ll ignore the appealing for the strong comment.” Misty gave a small look up to the two, a bit curious, but turned her golden eyed gaze towards Tobias. “Mama is very strong. And very cute, Toby.” She liked Toby more because it ended in a y. Yukiko started with a Y. She liked the letter a lot. “This is where you learn stuff right? You do science, so do you blow up stuff?” Yukiko had no comment towards the latter and actually looked curiously at Tobias. Blowing up stuff was fun. A lot of fun. Tag:@ Tobias Higgins
