History
Born the oldest out of four siblings Donnie was forced into the role of responsibility. His father left his mother not long after he was born but his mother still being young and vibrant quickly found a new beau and got hitched right away. At age five, his mother had given birth to his first sister and like any child Donnie was excited and amazed at the idea of having a younger sibling but was a little disappointed at it being a girl. Nonetheless he still loved his sister and wanted to protect her and care for her. It was about a year later when his mother would announce another pregnancy, and another girl. Donnie would have another little sister to look after but he wasn’t bothered by that at all. Not long after his second sister was born he could tell that his mother and stepfather weren’t getting along too well, they began to bicker and snap at each other, something Donnie desperately tried to keep his sisters away from. His mother tried as hard as she could to keep things together so that her children could live their lives as a normal, happy family but she could only put up with her husbands bad temper or so long. They divorced and he left the children in her care, not even putting up a fight for them.
Donnie was now ten years old and was the man of the house. He would take care of his sisters while his mom worked hard to keep them livingly comfortably. His sisters had just started kindergarten and preschool and he himself had begun the fifth grade, so everyday he would walk his sisters to school and pick them up after. He would try his best to help them with their work but also keep up with his own, although taking care of a preschooler and kindergartner was hard work for one boy. His mother would leave early in the mornings and come home around midnight so it was his duty to care for his sisters 24/7. Neighbors would often come to check on the children knowing how busy their mother was but Donnie wasn’t the most inviting and was often very suspicious even if he had known his neighbors all his life. Not having a lot of parental supervision allowed him free reign of the TV and in his free time he would watch a lot of crime dramas, this made him a little paranoid of other people.
It was tough being the man of the house, he had to learn how to cook and clean, he helped his siblings with homework while simultaneously doing his own, and he would stay up late to make sure his mother made it home safe and sound. By the time Donnie was entering middle school though he had been viewing a change in his mother, she was a lot happier and more energetic and every day off she would go out about the town. Donnie wasn’t too sure what she was doing until she had brought an unknown man home and introduced him to her children as her new boyfriend. Donnie of course was very suspicious of the new man and on the first day of meeting him and threatened him on sight. Donnie would ignore his mother’s man’s presence whenever he came. he would bring the children gifts and take them all out to eat but Donnie was still not impressed. His sister’s loved the man though, with all the gifts they received but Donnie would continuously lecture them about not being fooled by his charm.
Donnie had felt left out of his family, he didn’t understand why his mother felt the need to bring some stranger into their home but his protests went ignored. As time passed it became apparent that no matter what he said his mother and sisters were hypnotized by this stranger. His mother’s relationship went on very steadily and even though Donnie was bitter his mother seemed very happy. It was almost time to start high school when his mother announced her engagement. His sisters were thrilled, but Donnie refused to accept it still not approving of the man and scolded his mother for rushing things. His mother tried to reason with him stating that this isn’t just for her but for all of them as now she had help paying the bills, her fiance had a high pay and promised to move them into a nice new house. Donnie promised to try and behave but he was still angry.
A lot of changes happened when Donnie had entered high school, he had moved into a new neighborhood, a much nicer, uppity one, he had a new stepfather, he wasn’t able to attend the same high school as his friends, and to top it all his mother had announced another pregnancy. It was too much for one teen to take in. It wasn’t too far along in the quarter before Donnie’s pent up anger had found an outlet in the face of a mouthy classmate. Donnie had began a reputation for himself around his school and despite the protests from his mother he was kicked out before the end of his freshman year. It wouldn’t be the first school he was kicked out of, Donnie couldn’t contain his anger and was always set on a hair trigger except when he was home, where he tried to be as quiet and patient as he could. His mother had him enrolled in anger management classes and even put him through martial arts classes for a couple years but those all only seemed to annoy him further. Donnie began avoiding home after the birth of his new baby brother, he just didn’t want to be a part of his own family. He would often stay at friend’s houses or at his gang’s usual hang out in an abandoned warehouse.
During high school Donnie had seemed to pick up a following, other delinquent kids began to hang around him and they started their own little group. Donnie and his gang would run around the bad neighborhoods causing all kinds of trouble, they’d smash windows, bully other students, and just be a menace overall. They even soon began to get into fights with other street gangs. He’d come home bruised and bloody but not beaten, and although he raved around school about defending his turf he never spoke a word about it to his mother and sisters, even as he was dropped off at home by the police or had to be picked up at the station by his mother. He told them not to worry and that he could deal with whatever he got dished, but his mother insisted he stop, Donnie just smiled and said he couldn’t leave his friends alone otherwise they’d all get beaten. His step father disapproved of Donnie’s delinquent lifestyle and told him to quit before his family was hurt because of it, but Donnie ignored him.
Donnie barely showed up to school anymore and he’d still stay out late or just not return home. He felt uncomfortable around his family and just wanted to distract himself from feeling like an outcast in his own home. He himself couldn’t pinpoint what it was that made him feel so angry about his life, he had it pretty good. If he had to say, it was the fact that the past two father’s he had were less than savory. He didn’t know his real dad, he left his mom and him and that was something Donnie just couldn’t let go of, then his first step father who would constantly argue with his mother, even push her around, he couldn’t forgive that. Then he had his current step father, the man wasn’t a bad guy but something in Donnie just made him hate the guy. He thought of his grudges as irrational and childish and that only made him hate himself.
He dropped out of school in his junior year much to the dismay of his mother. He ran a ruckus around the neighborhoods with his gang and they thought they were invincible. Donnie was bull headed and began to encroach on other gangs turfs, he would be mouthy and rude, he always started fights. Of course none of them thought that this would cause them so much trouble, they were all just a bunch of dumb kids. They all looked up to Donnie for how strong and brave he was for never backing down from a fight, and Donnie enjoyed the praise and continued to want to amaze his friends and make them stronger. His group of friends, about five not counting himself, was all made up of outcasts, they were teased around their school but Donnie stepped in and protected them, so none of them were very strong but Donnie taught them a few things about fighting but they still couldn’t hold their ground as well as Donnie.
Donnie’s temper and brashness would prove to be his downfall. During the summer of what was his nineteenth birthday Donnie got a wake up call and a reminder of how he was not invincible. He had been searching all day for his friends but hadn’t heard anything from any of them. No one picked up their phones and they weren’t home either. He was worried, so he left to check out their “secret base”, an old warehouse. He couldn’t believe what he found there, his entire gang was being wheeled off into ambulances and police cars painted the scene. He was horrified by the sight of his friends, they all looked near death, he couldn’t believe he let it happen. He rushed passed police and stopped paramedics to question and apologize to one of his friends, Donnie was told that it was rival gang, they wanted to put them all in there place.
Not all of his friends were luckily enough to survive though, one of them had suffered severe stab wounds and had bled out before help had arrived. Donnie had blamed himself for everything that happened, but his friends had consoled him that it was all of their faults, for not being strong enough, and for being so arrogant. They all grieved together and Donnie would visit the hospital as much as he could. All of his old gang convinced him to clean himself up and do something with his life, they all swore to change who they were and grow up, with Donnie swearing to make things right and repent for all the damage he caused. He gave a wholehearted apology to his mother and sisters, and even to his stepfather, even though it was forced. His sisters helped him study for his GED so he could get good work, and he found it very ironic and was amazed at how advanced they were in school. His mother gave him all the moral support she could, and his stepfather even helped him get a job at a local convenience store. It was like he had let go of all his anger towards the world and just felt happy.
Donnie was quite proud of his progress, he even moved out of his parents house and got his own apartment, he had become a real adult, but he felt like it wasn’t enough to repent for getting his friends into danger. He still blamed himself for everything that happened, and because of his guilt he often found himself stopping ne'er-do-wells. Trouble always found itself around his convenience store so he took it up as his job to stop it, girls being harassed by perverts, thieves trying to pilfer his shelves, and bullies picking on elementary students, he would beat them all. Soon enough he began doing his hero routine around town, in the parks, department stores, anywhere, he felt satisfaction on being a hero. But he always found time to keep a special eye on his sisters, and little brother who had begun preschool.
Life had just settled down for Donnie, he was promoted to assistant manager at the convenience store, and had finally got his apartment put together, until the event. While others gawked in amazement, even fear, Donnie squawked like a child at how awesome it was. Of course hearing he got a single wish made him even more excited. he thought carefully about what he wanted and the only thing that came to mind was how a few of his friends were still undergoing rehabilitation for their injuries, he wished for them to recover from the injuries that they had all sustained. His wish was granted and he stated that now they could all wish for whatever they wanted. He was given the power to cause bad luck and the Evil Eye, and he declared that he would play the role of karma and that would be his redemption.
Insignia Level 1
Touch of Perses - Level 1 - Donnie has been granted the power to give bad luck, anything that touches the palms of his hands will experience misfortune within a few seconds of contact. Simply by placing a hand on a person they are doomed to endure an inescapable event of bad luck such as tripping, knocking something over, or any other thing that could ruin someone’s day. The misfortune that will befall the person or item is random and uncontrollable, though a person’s karma plays a role in how serious the mishap will be and Donnie can even use his own spite to inflict a violent occurrence. However if Donnie does use his spite to cause damage it will inflict damage upon himself as well. A weakness to his power is that good luck charms, such as a lucky rabbits foot, can negate his ability. His insignia is two diamond shaped stigmata-esque symbols on the palms of his hands.
The Evil Eye - Passive - Donnie’s passive is a Nazar charm (Also known as an evil eye to some) held by a simple chain necklace. The eye seems ordinary enough but Donnie can feel the eye “looking” for people with bad intentions. People who harbor ill-will will often feel a sensation of being watched when near Donnie.
