History
Marcus was the second-born son of an affluent and influential couple from Boston. Their father's family had owned and run a company that was responsible for producing pharmacuticals for a number of generations. While his mother's family came from what one refered to in this day and age as old money. Her family had been wealth since the foundation of the country itself thanks to their intelligent investments. By the time he was born his older brother had already become the apple of his mother's eye and while his father was not as flashy with his affection Marcus knew very well that his father did love them.
Growing up with an older brother like Christopher was a challenge in itself. From his birth he was given all the luxuries that any of the family's children would have recieved. His mother gave him enough attention as did his father and while his brother was a bit spoiled at first it wasn't until later that Marcus would begin to realize just how bad his attitude was. From a young age Marcus clung more to their father than he did their mother. Mostly because he felt like he always had to be the one to seek out his mother's attention. Sometimes he would intentionally butt into Christopher's time with her because he was young and jealous, but the mean way his brother treated him often made him hide more so behind their father.
Marcus watched everything his father did, he tried to make him proud, and to do well to impress both of his parents. Yet he always felt like there was something pushing him and his brother further apart as the years went on. Marcus would often interrupt Chris' and his mom to try to get their attention. He just wanted his big brother to love him too, but it was a struggle in itself to growing up with the man. While growing up Marcus always seemed the more mature of the two despite their age difference. He was always making more logical choices while his brother did not. He was always trying to look out for his brother and would invade his personal space every chance he got trying to get his brother to play with him.
Chris' temper and bullying would sometimes take a rather rough turn on him, but he hardly ever told on his brother for hitting him. A lot of the time he'd say that he fell down or that they were just wrestling because he didn't want his brother to get in trouble or for him to hate him more. When more of his siblings came a long he did his best to protect them all. Marcus was always the shoulder to cry on or the one that tried to play peacemaker. Whenever his older brother lashed out at them he'd put himself between the situation and he'd endure whatever came his way for his siblings. Even if some appreciated it more than others.
Marcus studied hard, but he was an adventerous child. He enjoyed building forts as a child and trying to get his brother to use the secret password to get in. One of the things that made him and his siblings fight the most was the way that he always said what was on his mind. Sometimes it wasn't always what they wanted to hear. The same went with his classmates.
In school Marcus even suffered his brother's reputation. He was still rather popular, but he often had a difficult time trusting people. Sometimes because he feared people only hung out with him because they thought he would be able to protect them from his brother. Othertimes because he feared that people would stop being his friends when they found out who his brother was. Due to how close they were in age it was hard to avoid his brother in school entirely. Whenever Marcus would suggest that his brother should get new friends or stop doing something the results were never that great.
When his brother got his way and went off to boarding school, in middle school, he thought it would be good for his brother. In Marcus' mind it was a place that was new and his brother could get a fresh start. He thought it would better his brother and that he'd come back home a lot nicer than he was. At least he hoped that he would come home. Marcus had a bit of anxiety over his brother going to a different school, but Marcus' social life seemed to improve with his brother going off to that school.
He'd joined several after-school activities and even got asked to school dances. Growing up Marcus struggled with his own identity. He was so used to doing what other people wanted of him that he'd lost grasp on the things he wanted for himself. In middle school he'd started to have physical attraction to other males and often had to be careful not to stare too much during gym class. He struggled a lot with these feelings and the thoughts he'd have when he was alone or the dreams he'd have about certain people in his class. Marcus thought there was something wrong with him so he's spent a better portion of his life suffocating those thoughts and urges. Without his brother around he had no one to turn to with his questions. He certainly couldn't ask their other siblings and asking his parents would have killed him of embarrassment, but he was certain they would think he was a freak. They already had enough to deal with when it came to his brother.
When Chris returned to Boston to attend school Marcus was thrilled. He was so proud of his brother for bettering himself, he really believed he'd changed, but no sooner had Marcus entered high school did he realize that this perfect image of his brother's rehabilitation had been a lie. His brother got into the wrong crowds again and no matter how much Marcus pleaded with him to stop doing the things he was doing those pleas fell on deaf ears. The more promises that Chris told him the less he began to believe him. Despite this, Marcus refused to give up on his brother. Even with his aggressive temper and stubbron demeanour marcus couldn't stop trying to help his brother.
Sometimes he'd even get conned into giving his brother money because Marcus believed that if he didn't then his brother would just get it elsewhere in a more dangerous way. The trouble that his brother caused their family put a weight on Marcus' heart. He wanted to help his brother so badly, but it seemed like his brother was determined to do what he wanted no matter what they did. He could see it weighing down on his parents, effecting their siblings own attitudes, and yet it felt like he was the only one that wanted Chris to stop doing things that would end up getting him hurt. Marcus always felt somewhat of an outsider amongst his siblings because of how much he gave of himself to make sure they were not embarrassed, unhappy, or unhealthy. His attachment to his older brother was most unhealthy for him, but like a mother hen he believed he could change him.
When Chris finally returned home to ask for help Marcus wasn't sure what to believe.Yet he couldn't abandon his brother. Marcus had tried his hardest to convince his father to help him, but the man refused to budge on that stance and Marcus would spend several nights confiding in his girlfriend at the time about how he didn't know what to do. Even if he didn't feel any true attraction for the woman she was a woman who had a big heart, she was beautiful by most standards, and kind. She was his support through many of the roughest times in his life. His high-school sweetheart even too. It was her encouragement and his mother's agreeing to help his brother that kept Marcus from losing his own mind trying to figure out what to do.
When his brother went to rehab and remained clean thereafter it was like a sign to him. He believed he was meant to be with this woman forever. Though it wouldn't go how he hoped. She admitted to him that her feelings for him had become distant and that he was more of a friend to her than anything. Like she knew it wasn't really what he wanted and she couldn't do that to him, but he was heartbroken. He believed he'd failed as a man as he'd been refused, but over time he got past even that.
Marcus wasn't as worried when his brother went off to boot camp, he didn't want him to go, he was tired of his brother going away though. Marcus encouraged their other siblings, supporting them all, and spoiling each of them in their own ways. Marcus was more or less the doormat of the family when it came to his siblings up until that point.
Before his father grew ill Marcus had a part-time job. He was maintaining his grades so that he could work toward his law degree when he went off to college, but when his father grew ill Marcus dropped everything to return to his father's side. It was one of the most devastating and life changing moments he'd ever been through. Despite spending the last few weeks fo his father's life with him it still hit him rather roughly. Marcus was falling apart and he could see his brother falling apart again too. He knew him well enough to know that he was starting to go back a terrible route so when his mother packed them up and moved them to Georgia, Marcus believed it was for the best, and hoped he was right.
Again he had to watch his brother struggle to kick that reoccuring habit. the more he watched it the less he believed his brother would ever stop it entirely. Even when he went off to college to major in such a worthy study. It was hard for him to believe that he'd change, through everything they'd been through, it seemed impossible. During the time that his father was ill he'd been taught a great deal about the company, as he always had been, so when his father passed away he stepped up to take control of the company. Despite his young age his choices were all logical and with the help of his staff the business continues to thrive as if it were natural to him.
Marcus' personal life had become a bit of a wasteland. He started seeing a woman he met at the grocery story, she was someone he believed his father would have approved of, but he didn't care either way. It was just nice not to be alone even if his thoughts lingered elsewhere. The burden of hiding things about himself, the weight of the responsibilities his father had left him with, and the struggle of trying to keep his family in good moral standing had become exhausting for him.
On his way back to the plantation he thought he'd nearly hit someone in the street. Pulling over he'd stepped out of the car and run around to see if he had or not, but no one was there. Thinking he was just tired he had moved to get back into his car when he was halted by the presence of a god. He wasn't sure whether to believe that this peson was really a god or not so not really thinking about the other things he could have wished for he wished that his car would never run out of gass or break down. His wish was granted and a tattoo in the shape of a tribal-styled eyeball would etch itself upon his collarbone.
Insignia Level 1
A tribal tattoo of eyes centered on his collarbone. To activate it he must place both hands over the tattoo at the same time which causes it to spread over his shoulders in a soft grey glow. The eyes on the tattoo also begin to blink.
"Oculus" - Level 1 - This ability allows Marcus to look into a string of possible outcomes for a person's future. At his current level Marcus can only do this once a day, once per person, and it only shows him possible outcomes for a 24 hr period of time. His ability must recharge 24 hrs to be used again and he cannot use it on himself. He has no way of seeing exact futures at this level if ever at all due the nature of the outcome depending on the person's actions, but he can foresee possible outcomes. He is also unable to see what choices generate what outcomes.
Passive - An eye bat that wears a rabbit hood over it's body. It does not speak, but it's flight patterns seem to communicate it's messages.
