History
Lorence Kyger was born to one Tom Kryger and Amanda Burrows, the latter one fleeing the family scene after being unable to cope with both her boyfriend and their child. Why did she leave? Postpartum depression along with his father's very obnoxious career choice. The man was a "talk-show psychologist" and "inspirational speaker", how utterly ironic that he would fail to notice or even help his girlfriend with her condition. His little appearance in television was more important to him than his loved ones it seemed and it only became more apparent to the child as he grew up neglected by his father. Whenever he needed him, he was most of the time out of town. It became so asinine to the point where he had to talk to his father's agent before talking to him. Needless to say, there was no way the boy would grow up in the best environment. His nanny was also very uncaring and cold towards him.
He was always a strange young boy, always so quiet and preferring to spend time with himself, rather than with other children. They just seemed unpleasant, from his experiences. There would be many times when he would be made fun of and even mocked for not showing much care to insults or otherwise unsavory comments. He'd rather devote himself to books than people, beginning to read his father's books from a very young age. At first, it all seemed like gibberish and nonsensical banter as despite his somewhat nourished intellect, he was still a child after all. But bit by bit he had begun to understand things, especially when it came to human emotion and reaction. It was the most accessible subject to him, after all. He believed that if he showed his father he was an asset, perhaps he would spend time with him instead of being so neglectful.
Surprisingly though, his father would eventually just became a shadow in his life, considering how nonexistent he was. He had done nothing more than aid in bringing him to this world, now he was obsolete since there was little he could give him. The desire to please him fully turned around and became a desire to please himself with that and no one else. But he had to hand it to the man, he was somewhat useful with material possessions as if it wasn't for him, Lorence wouldn't have enrolled in the world of computers, having received one very young.
It didn't seem that his fellow students would ever leave him be though, which led the boy to approach the subject in a different angle. He was never one to indulge in violence, oh no. Instead, he made sure his assailants or verbal abusers had a fitting punishment. Expulsions, detentions, humiliation caused by anonymous sources through their secrets and much more came to be a tool of his to make sure he'd be left alone. His father's notebook, which he had gotten his hands on at an early stage of his teen age years, was right. Manipulation was indeed a powerful tool. But slowly, as time passed, the tool he used for his own defense became something more... Twisted from its original purpose.
The human mind was indeed a fascinating thing to the young teenager and so were humans. So volatile and random, in their chaos they were so fascinating. As if a complex puzzle that begged to be studied, but given a body of bone, flesh and blood. His horizons began to expand to society itself when he began to grasp more advanced concepts that most young teenagers neglected, which only serve to further feed the boy's growing appetite for examination his fellow kin. But for that, he'd have to actually interact with them, for the sake of his desires. Though at first it was very hard to enter such a world, he'd eventually begin to fit in, using many of the techniques he came to learn from his books.
More recently, he had begun to play games with those around him. He didn't discriminate, not at all. It didn't matter if it was a popular jock or cheerleader, an absolutely unpopular peer, a teacher, or anyone really. Each of them were different and so they were all grand subjects for examination and experimentation. He wondered how they reacted in different situations. Would the popular cheerleader be able to be influenced to end her own life, whereas the disturbed girl with suicidal tendencies be influenced to cherish hers? Could the confident jock feel self-conscious, while the lowly unpopular student felt confident? Could the rich man be driven to despair and the poor man to bliss? So many possibilities that he could explore and he certainly would.
In highschool he was fairly popular, as he required it to get to the more popular subjects. Many of those around him were under his influence unawarily, Lorence a puppeteer in that play that were their lives. Deserving or undeserving, they were all playing that game and he'd get what he wanted, with little to no regard for them, their lives or their feelings. He couldn't bring himself to care really, having grown cold and lacking any empathy since a very long time ago.
The event was seen by him to be a grand thing really. How big of a social experiment within this already existing one could he create and manage? No government to get involved, no bureaus or special forces? Only the policemen that were brought into this toy box of a dimension? This was a chance of a life time for him and he'd take it gladly.
Insignia Level 1
"Shapeshifter" - Level 1 - Actually a cloaking power, through physical touch with another person, Lorence can replicate that person's appearance upon himself. All it takes is a simple touch, as the alternative would be too time consuming considering the details he'd have to observe, process and replicate upon himself. While possible, it would be a bothersome, tiresome and very boring process if it was by vision alone. At early levels though, it could be compared to an hologram, meaning it's akin to a cloak he places upon himself. Physical contact with him might reveal that he's disguised, as he can't exactly change his body's structure. He can "store" up to three appearances per day and extended use will cause them to be faulty or otherwise flickering between his true appearance and false one. He's also experienced exhaustion and migraines with it.
His Insignia took the odd form of changing his otherwise blonde hair to white and his familiar is a strange turquoise/white spirit that appears to be bald and wears sunglasses to hide its eyes. It mostly keeps to itself and it's very rare for him to voice out a single word. Lorence gave him the name of Cypher, which seems to have been accepted by the entity.
Extra
- Goes by the nickname "Loki", as he isn't too fond of his real name. - Is, obviously, a fan of mythology and is often found making references surrounding said topic. - Is fond of handheld puzzles such as Rubik's cube, steel rings, secret boxes and such, always seen playing with one whenever seemingly not doing anything. - Loves music as much as he loves puzzles. - His wish was to be able to play the violin, which he in hindsight found to be quite a waste but still doesn't complain. - Has a very weird habit of preferring eating his food after it's gone cold, steak being the exception.
