The girl’s over-sized hoodie seemed to move of its own accord as Barry adjusted himself in the pocket of it. She loved the tiny little fox that had been given to her by that god, and she was also quite fond of her power. It was useful for finding things in the dark, or even just using to get home when it got dark earlier than she was expecting – which seemed to be happening a lot more lately with winter setting in in earnest. Her breath even misted before her as she walked along, and that was getting more and more common lately. She honestly couldn’t wait until summer came back around so she could go swimming and spend more time outside, but that wouldn’t be for several more months yet.
Her dark fingers rose to her neck to stroke the choker that was found there. It had been a Christmas present from her grandmother last year, and thankfully it still fit. She really loved it, and wore it on most days. Whether it was real gold or actually worth anything she didn’t know nor did she care. What counted was that her grandmother had given it to her. Out of all the people in her life, she respected her grandmother the most. The woman had at least provided for them, which was more than could be said of her mother. She sighed and pushed thoughts of the woman from her head. She didn’t matter anyway. She turned sharply, cutting off several people who had been walking. She ignored their cries of protest, they would get over it. Besides, it was mostly their fault for not paying attention to her just because she was shorter than them. She gave the door of the store she was meaning to enter a tug, but it didn’t budge. She tried pushing on it, even though the handle was clearly meant to be pulled, and was met with the same result. She pursed her lips slightly and took a step back. This was one of her favorite places to get hot chocolate, why was it closed today? -- Open

Like an unforgiving maiden, the cold swept through long charcoal hair threatening to peal apart the wrapping that kept it across the back of the man smoothly stepping through the snow. Lucky for him, Shin had double knotted the simple chords to keep his hair and clothes in place against the fingers of a less than comforting mistress, yet apart from this, he looked severely under dressed for a Georgian resident in the midst of winter. Coming from a colder climate than where he was now, in all actuality, Shin enjoyed the weather as it was now— and even wished that it would stay that way for longer. The summer seemed especially long in the southern state, and had he planned better, he would have settled somewhere further north. It wasn’t like he could change that now, however. Oh well~
While he wasn’t the most social of people and was prone to weeks of solitary confinement of his own doing, Shin got out like this to stretch his legs every once in a while, among other things. “People watching” was still a passive hobby of his though he hadn’t found anyone of interest as of late. He was beginning to need more muse to finish up this last book he’d been writing which meant he’d have to make a call soon. However, he’d stave that off for a bit and see if anything else could spark the fires of his tattered muse. With that, he drew down the street passing numbers of people as he went, red eyes evaluating each one for signs of interest hiding in plain sight.
His gaze would eventually catch sight of a young woman at the front of a store though with one gaze at the hanging sign, he could see it was closed for the afternoon. Strict apologies were given as was general, but why then was young girl at the front? Had she missed it? Allowing his gaze to run over her form, Shin smiled. The biggest surprises came in the smallest packages; was that not the English saying? He waited a bit in step until he was just past her before turning a head to the girl. “The sign above you says it is closed,” he commented simply in that light singsong voice he used.

The girl had, in fact, missed the sign saying that the place was closed. It was hard to see over everyone and her focus had simply been on pushing her way through the people so she could get to the door. Of course now she felt a bit silly. Her cheeks darkened slightly as her blue eyes scanned the crowd. She was just about to hope that no one had noticed when that woman turned back and started speaking to her. Well, so much for that. The look on her face was equal parts defensive and wary. She had, of course, been taught not to talk to strangers as a child. As a general rule of thumb she felt like she could judge people pretty well, but based just upon that one sentence she had no idea what this woman’s intentions might be. Either way, she resigned herself to not being rude as she tipped her head back to look at the sign in question.
“I guess I missed it.” She stated. “It’s hard to see over everyone.” Thereafter she would hold her hand up next to her temple to indicate how short she was. Being short seemed to run in her family, even her eldest brother was rather short for a man – of course he was still well over six inches taller than her. Diamond often wished she was taller because then people would take her more seriously and maybe she could lie about her age and get a job, but wishful thinking was hardly useful thinking, after all. And besides, if she was any bigger she wouldn’t make a good flyer for cheerleading anyway. “I wish they were open, they’re my favorite place.” Despite the fact that she was clearly not going to blow the woman off her words were stiff. Diamond didn’t trust anyone, especially not a strange woman. Or what she thought was a woman. The more she looked at them the more she couldn’t really tell.

Deep ruby spheres regarded the girl that Shin had chosen to acknowledge with a soft interest. Had Shin’s eyes been blue, one might have been inclined to say his gaze was that of a placid ocean unassertive but mildly interested. Bathed in red, however, his irises often held an unintentionally questioning stare instead. The girl’s wariness was duly noted though he’d smile upon seeing her gaze shift momentarily. She’s cute he mused briefly before his thoughts would clear as she gazed back at him once more. The explanation that would come thereafter cause a bemused smile to twist upon his lips, but he would not allow himself to laugh. She was making a point, and it was generally rude to laugh at such things... no matter how small.
As the girl spoke her wish, Shin looked thoughtful for a moment. He considered not only her words but tone and half wondered if there was something more than a stranger wariness in her tone. She did look young, and no doubt it seemed out of place for a stranger to make a comment. Ah, it’s my fault then he mentally asserted. Unless of course you’re hiding something. He smiled. If this were one of his books, he would have written it that way. Secrets were such useful plot devices, after all. “You know there is a place similar up the street,” he commented making a gesture in the general direction. “It happens to be my favorite place,” he laughed simply after the fact. “Ah… apologies,” he mused softly after the fact. “My name is Shin.”

Deep blue eyes held those red eyes easily, even if they made her slightly uneasy. There was something about the color red that held an intensity, even if the woman she was currently speaking with seemed mild-mannered and calm. Diamond supposed she couldn’t help her eye color any more than anyone else could. Though, in her opinion, it would make more sense if their eye colors were switched. She’d never thought blue quite suited her. She’d always wanted red, gold, perhaps even pink. Ah, but it didn’t matter. The girl could look fiercer than she realized when she took a notion to.
As the other hot chocolate place was brought up, however, Diamond’s attention was diverted from considering eye colors and whether or not they matched their owner. She peaked around the woman, looking in the direction that was gestured. Her eyes fell on a building that could perhaps be the place, it wasn’t too far off. “Shin.” She repeated, returning her gaze to the… person. Shin sounded like a boy’s name to her, probably. But she knew girls who went by things like ‘Charlie’ and ‘Jordan’, so she didn’t put much stock into that. “My name is Diamond.” She stated, holding a small hand out for the person to shake. “You wanna buy me some hot chocolate?” She went on to question, smirking slightly. Well, subtleties weren’t her strong suit, and that was something Shin would learn if they spent much time around her at all.

As his name was repeated, Shin smiled giving a simple nod in conformation. The expression he received, however, was oh so much more interesting. He wondered what the girl before him could be thinking when making such a face? Perhaps it was wariness? No, he didn’t think that was what it was. Perhaps she was just considering the name. Americans found it foreign after all. Who knew? He wanted to, heh. That was who.
Reaching up briefly as if to brush a few bangs from his eyes, Shin touched one of the red circles that marked his insignia. Almost instantly, a flood of color jumped before his vision, engrossing the girl standing before him, and smoothly, Shin’s lips pressed together into a fine line. Ah, he knew that mixture, a contrast of purple and yellow. At first he had assumed it meant some sort of festive feeling, but after several conversations, he registered it for what it was: confusion. Now that wasn’t very fun.
As Diamond finally gave her own name, Shin brightened taking the hand that was held out for him and mentally ending his brief look into the human heart. “A pleasure to meet you, Ms. Diamond,” he replied smoothly enough, the singsong tone in his voice giving way to a more respectable tone. Her question after, however, had a soft laugh working its way from him. “I suppose I can,” he mused simply making a gesture before starting to walk and mildly expecting her to follow. “It is quite a cold day out after all,” he continued as he strode.
Truthfully, he liked the temperature as it was now and wished it would persist for longer. Being down south was less scenic than the north, or so he had gathered. The beaches had very little to offer when not in season. Perhaps he should have asked for a different area to be in when the gods came down. Who knew they were coming though? That was the real question. “So Ms. Diamond,” he started simply. “Was it only a warm drink that pulled you out on a cool day?” he asked pleasantly enough.

As the person before her reached to brush their bangs from their eyes, she paid little heed to the action. She brushed her own bangs from her eyes quite frequently, after all. For as much as she was watching the brunette, she was missing a lot of things. She was still young, and focus had never been her strong suit. She could force it when she needed to, but she was more a woman of action. She liked to get things done. Already, her gaze was traveling from Shin to look at the fox who had momentarily poked his nose from her pocket. Her attention was returned, however, as those words were spoken.
Ms. Diamond. She liked being referred to as such, and the brighter smile that lit up her features made it obvious. “Likewise!” She told them, lips pulling up into a rather large grin. As Shin went on to agree to buy her hot chocolate, she perked up even more. She decided that Shin was okay. They were buying her things, and they weren’t treating her like a little kid – not really. It was nice. “Thank you~” She added, as an afterthought, really, before she fell into step beside the brunette.
Small hands returned to the pocket of her hoodie, fingers brushing across her familiar. Barry was warm, he kept her hands nice and toasty. Truthfully, she was very ready for summertime. She liked wearing shorts and being outside all the time. No one could keep her in with excuses that she would get sick, so ha!
Her gaze moved upward to Shin as they spoke again. “Well, I just wanted to get outta the house.” She explained truthfully. Diamond could lie when the situation called for it, but most of the time she was too honest, really. “Gets a little crowded in there, ‘specially in winter cause sometimes it’s too cold to go outside, ya know?” She asked rhetorically. “What about you?” She returned the question, squinting slightly.
