Four o’clock… in the God damn morning? A groan ensured as Julius rolled over in bed to snatch up his buzzing cell phone and hit the talk button. “This better be good,” was the soft growl that would quietly echo into the speaker before a slightly fidgety dispatcher would explain the situation at hand. A dry grumble would ensue followed by a “I’ll be right there,” hit the air before Julius slowly stretched and swung his legs around to the edge of the bed. Glancing back at his sleeping wife shrouded in the darkness of the early morning briefly, the blue haired man gave a soft sigh before forcing himself up and over to his closet. Fishing through and throwing on clothes, he returned to the nightstand only to put his phone and keys in adjacent pockets and round the bed towards the door.
“Nmgm Julius- ?” the soft melodic sounds of Melody would cause Julius to pause and glance back at her, a soft smile coming to his features. “Work started earlier than usual, I was going to let you sleep in,” he admitted tenderly before stepping back to lean on the doorsill gently as he watched her sit up in bed. Her hair was a mess, her features were lax, but to him she was beautiful right then and there. “You better text me later,” were the returned orders causing the no longer young man to pause briefly before smiling a little. “Alright, I will, promise,” was the brief reply. He’d stand there a few moments longer before turning and entering the hallway fluidly transgressing past his daughters’ room to the living room and finally to the kitchen.
The coffee whose timer belonged to the five o’clock hour had yet to start by the time he entered the kitchen, and with a dry disdain, Julius decided he would round the coffee shop before heading to the scene. It took no more time for him to get out of the house, into the car, and off to work thereafter. However, by the time he’d driven up to the street in question, the area was well marked with caution tape and personnel standing around. Wonder if Al’stair’s here yet… was the brief thought before Julius forced himself from the car with a bought coffee in hand.

When Alastair got the call- he wasn’t really asleep. He was more in a nightmare watching his wife die than actually on earth with his own thoughts. When the phone rang- he shot into a sitting position- eyes wide as his heart thudded against his chest. Pound- pound- went his heart while a faint ending of a heart monitor echoed in his ears. He quickly and blindly grabbed for his phone and answered it numbly. He gave a soft ‘okay’ before hanging up. He groped for the light to turn it on- his eyes shutting quickly when he actually did find the switch. He peeled off the blanket with a grimace- hating how it stuck to his bare skin. “Damn.” He murmured- seeing her angelic face for a brief second- before a meow almost made him fall out of bed. His head jerked to the right as he saw the only cat he did have, Melody. Her bright eyes stared up at him, as if honestly inquiring about him. He knew it was just a statement to lay back down so she could sleep- but he reached his hand to ruffle the fur on her head. She reached up with a white paw to swat at him- but only flopped on the side and continued to bat at his hand playfully. It made him smile just briefly- and that was enough. “Thanks.” He told the cat- even if Melody didn’t care about it. Pushing his feet over and resting them on the ground- he got glances from the dogs. He used to be an advocate for the ‘dogs stay outside’ but now they stayed with him like they were his constant shadows. Selene changed him for the better he supposed. Well the dogs got the better end of it. Standing up he grabbed the clothes he set out for himself and took a quick shower- running a brush lazily through his hair and quickly got his food ready and put the dogs outside. Well- two since Mary phased through the sliding glass door as if it was normal. Alastair chewed on his poptart as he watched the ridiculous and supernatural sight- but he was too used to it to be phased. Melody had her water and food refilled as he grabbed his gun and badge. A glance at the clock- which he didn’t even pay attention told the auburn haired man it only was four-thirty. Alastair gave a spare glance towards the dark outside and thought coherently ‘that’s why it was dark outside’ as he flicked on the outside light. With that- he and Mary left the house and drove to the scene. It wasn’t that far away from his house thankfully- and he downed the rest of his poptart as he pulled up. The coffee he had made for himself was pulled from the cupholder as he parked at the crime scene. Yellow ‘caution’ tape glared back in his brown eyes as he dragged himself out of the car and opened the back door for Mary to jump out. He would put her on a leash- but nothing actually did anything to separate her from Alastair- so he stopped trying to care. Alastair pulled the tape up and ducked under it- seeing a familiar face that got there a few seconds earlier. “Let’s us both hope there’s an actual body this time.” He sighed to his partner as the auburn haired man walked further onto the scene. With a small yawn- he gave a small look to Julius, wondering what exactly he was dragged out of. He knew that the man had a family and kids- so he felt more sympathetic for his plight than others. “I am tired of the zombies or whatever the patrol is calling them now.” Tag:@ Julius Pierson

Shutting the door of his car, Julius caught sight of a familiar car with a familiar person inside. Rather than stand around and wait, however, Julius turned and started past the caution line knowing Alastair would close the distance soon enough. Taking a slow sip of his coffee, the blue haired man mental swore that if they’d got him up for a bodiless crime scene again, someone was going to have an ear full- though that someone was probably going to be Alastair considering he wouldn’t readily chew out the chief. ‘How do we know someone even died without a body on scene?’ That was the question wasn’t it. It made things difficult to say the least though Julius supposed it was harder on the medical examiner at the end of it all. Hard to study a body with no body to be had.
A teal green eye would slide sideways as a familiar voice spoke though the words would earn a sigh in response. Zombies, yes clearly zombies inhabited the damn town now. That was just what everyone wanted to hear, yep. Julius wasn’t going to lie when he hoped it was a body snatcher. It’d be easier to deal with than zombies. “Or at least an arm or organ,” he reciprocated back briefly before stepping forwards passed a few people standing around taking pictures as evidence. Upon catching sight of the ground bathed red with the imprint of a body, however, Julius couldn’t help but already assume they were out of luck. This was just like the last time, wasn’t it?
Despite the darkness of the general area, the lack of blood trail was evident to Julius, and a sigh hit his lips. What the hell even? How did one move as large a body as was imprinted on the ground without leaving small spatter? Perhaps this time the crime scene investigators would pick up something. Maybe. Hopefully. “Man this is a mess,” was the soft sigh thereafter.

Julius and he were probably on the same thought process that homicide detectives were a bit stupid when there was no body. There was no evidence of a homicide, suicide, nothing-dead-here-cide, which left their presence in fact completely useless. If he had more care about it- he would honestly probably be pissed that someone kept calling him for no body. Though the coroner probably had the same problem so he wasn’t going to complain out loud to the patrol cops. It’s not like they had any clue what to do in this situation. While ‘dead bodies with no dead bodies’ was a thing and in the book, the event liked to trip everyone up because he was pretty sure no one could actually die- or their bodies disappeared. Something. He didn’t understand why it only happened now, and since that was the only thing that changed- he guessed it had to do with that. Mary trotted along at his side- her ears tilted forward and alert. The German shepherd had long since been desensitized to the sound around her and was in fact- the perfect dog. If only she could track as well as she could tackle and bite though. “If we would be so lucky.” He replied under his breath to Julius’ comment. Why were they called again? The auburn haired detective ran a hand through his hair and stared at the body outline. Blood used to bother him, tear at him, and make him nauseous. It still had a smell in his head- whether or not it had an actual smell to anyone else. “It’s always a mess, I think someone enjoys doing this.” The man commented lowly to his partner. “I’ll take the left side, you take the right to see if anything is actually out of place. If this is a person or event doing this- hopefully they’ll slip up.” It was rather hopeful thinking. “Or we can at least find out who this person was. That would be a damn good start to these cases.” With that- he moved to the left- walking around the scene- Mary following behind him. Seeing nothing, he cursed to himself- only to be scared out of his mind when a bark split through the quiet ‘air’ of the place. There was a small grumbled curse and a creative insult as he turned around to stare at the familiar. She had a paw placed on one of the dumpsters they passed. Well…that was abnormal. The dumpster was open thankfully as he reluctantly looked into it. Seeing a familiar shape, he whistled. “I’ll be damned.” He pulled away to call over Julius and a tech. Julius to converse and the tech to actually get in there and get it. He had a good pair of pants on- he wasn’t climbing into a dumpster. He wasn’t paid enough. Turning his head to Julius, he knelt down to scratch Mary’s ears who leaned against him. “She can’t search for cellphones or anything- but she knows the smell of a gun.” There was a pause. “Even if we found it- it’s not like we can match it to any bullets. There’s no bloody body.” Alastair sighed darkly- because this job was hard enough as is. Tag:@ Julius Pierson

Julius sighed. The devil went down to Georgia he thought briefly before trying to fend off the song before it was forever stuck in his head. There were plenty of devils, Julius was sure, though deciphering them apart from the standard human was difficult. The suggestion, or maybe order, earned a simple nod before Julius turned and started walking. There was nothing to add. Alastair’s hopes were Julius’s at this point. All they could do was hope for some evidence to show up.
While he didn’t have a dog, Julius had perception to a certain degree. His eyes had been trained by work to look for things, and he’d be damned if anything was overlooked. All they needed was a clue, a simple clue. Drawing his hands into his pockets, he walked carefully his eyes flashing from the ground to the areas beyond. Due, in part, to not being as close to the dog when she had barked, Julius hadn’t jumped when it echoed into his ears. Instead, his head had jutted sideways before teal eyes fixated back on Alastair. Upon watching the man go to look in the dumpster, he started over rather promptly thereafter.
A small smirk grasped Julius’s features as Alastair explained what had been found. Tip toing just a bit to glance inwards for a moment, he lowered himself again and moved out of the way of the tech. At Alastair’s sigh, Julius folded his arms in front of himself. “We can have the techs find out how recently it was fired and if there are any usable finger prints on it at least,” he commented before briefly glancing at the dumpster again. Turning his head to face the crime scene again, Julius glanced around gazing at the various angles where a shooter could have been standing. Slowly circling around the area, he fished a flashlight from his pocket and began shining it along the nearest walls. “Ya would think someone would have heard gunshots,” he mumbled more to himself than Alastair. He didn’t doubt people would either be tolerant to such things by now or would lie, but that was where he came in. “How about we ask neighbors about noise?” he finally finished circling back around once more.

Alastair was pleased to see Julius finally meander his way over to him. While it was probably quick- he was just excited to find something even if it didn’t show up on his face. Mary only leaned against him and took in the scratches and ruffles to her fur in style- pleased that she did something for her master. When Julius reached them- he stood up when his fellow detective started to speak. “Hopefully. Let’s pray to whatever Law guy we’re supposed to be working for he gave us stupid criminals who wouldn’t wipe down the gun.” He was a bit more cynical at the fact that a gun was left at the scene. It was not a power- though it wouldn’t be surprising that one would have a power such as that. The fact of the matter is that Law was at a definite standstill with no evidence. Most of the ‘neighbors’ would have been asleep. A quick glance around netted him a few glances of apartments that had lights on. Those were probably the most likely to have heard something. “Let’s go for the ones that are awake and ready to head to work. They were more likely to hear something.” Alastair gave a small sigh- hating to catch them on their way to work since most people wouldn’t even want to give them the time of day. “I’ll get Mary’s leash. I don’t want them to freak out that I have an unleashed dog or something. She’s perfectly trained- it’s ridiculous.” The man grumbled under his breath as he started to walk back to his car- Mary trotting after him obediently. Alastair never saw the point of putting the stupid dog on the leash in the first place- but he really just didn’t like when people treated Mary badly for being such an obedient creature. Mary however would just phase out of the leash and collar if need be- so he again saw so much redundancy. That being said he unlocked his car- grabbed the leash and locked it up again as he clicked the leash against her collar. He tucked it around his wrist and started walking towards the apartments- presumably catching up with Julius rather quickly. “I’ll give you five bucks that we’ll get someone who heard it and honestly just wants to get to work instead.” Alastair joked- turning his head towards the blue-haired detective next to him. Julius sighed giving a small nod thereafter. At one time, he might have been to skeptical to believe that prayer would alter the circumstances, but due to their world basically turning on its head when the three gods of sorts appeared, he questioned those doubts more than he would like to have now. Either way, he was pretty sure the previous theists were having such a confused field day with the appearance of these ‘gods’ of sorts. Perhaps even a sick cult had already developed to worship these obscure entities. Julius wouldn’t have doubted it.
A simple nod was given to the suggestion from his partner before crisp eyes slid sideways and up towards the various windows wherein light expelled itself. “Right,” Julius murmured more to himself than to Alastair. The comment on Mary’s leash caused Julius to glance down to watch man and dog head back to the car. In recent months, it had become so common to see Mary without one that sometimes Julius himself was confused by the need of such an action. He knew how certain people could be, however. Fear did things to people.
Waiting on Alastair, Julius shifted stances a few times before inevitably walking up to the apartments to meet him. The comment earned another sigh. “We can always threaten to detain them?” he suggested with a very brief wry smile that died shortly thereafter. Striding up the stairs, Julius was careful to count the doors and rooms trying to discern which ones had lights coming from them from the outside. It wasn’t too difficult, really; it just required some memorization and ability to discern spacial planes. Coming up to the first door, Julius raised a fist and knocked upon it.
There had been sound coming from behind the door, some sort of bustling that stopped abruptly when the door was knocked on. Had not the silence thereafter been impeccable, Julius might not have realized there had once been noise. Glancing sideways at Alastair for a moment, Julius waited a moment before glancing forwards once again as the feet on carpet from behind the door drew forwards. The sound of a body pressing against the door was audible for a moment, and Julius could imagine they were being stared at from that peep hole that he could see from the outside. Several locks were turned, and a chain lock was slipped into the door before it was opened. A rather well dressed woman stared out at them both skeptically. “Yes?” she demanded abruptly.

Mary gave a small twitch of her ears in return to work- but did nothing that would constitute much other thought. Alastair only gave a small chuckle at Julius’ comment. “Detaining them only makes them open with the Law and Order idea of they need to get lawyers- but you’re speaking my language.” He would love to detain the huffy people who snapped at him constantly for doing his job. Murder was not convenient- so it’s not like their intrusion was constantly welcomed. He had people constantly ignore fighting and brutal beatings because it was just ‘normal’ and a ‘hassle’ to deal with. It made the wallflower of a man more ornery than usual hearing those lines. As they came to the first door they saw light- he did share a glance with Julius before hiding his scowl for a more neutral look as easily as he breathed. Reaching into his pocket, he pulled out his badge, showing it to her, before flipping it so they could see his actual ID. “I’m sorry to bother you” –no he wasn’t – “but there was an attack behind this building. We’re trying to get information from the people that could have heard something. Did you hear anything strange last night?” It was cordial- but he knew that it was faker than can be on the inside. He would rather just get the information and leave- but people made that trouble. Mary had moved to sit down behind him- thankfully mostly blocked by Julius’ and his forms, making it less likely the woman was going to notice the large dog too much. Alastair didn’t need to think about how ‘dogs shouldn’t be in the building’ lecture he had gotten before. It’s his familiar. It’s not like it- or Alastair himself have a choice. He was sure the dog would follow him into the shower if she could. She was always a few feet behind, no matter what he did. He could only hope the woman would speak to Julius if not him to get any information. Time of death- or time of shooting would at least paint some picture if they could get something. A small snort escaped from two nostrils at the comment on Law and Order. “If they even think that far before saying something,” he commented, that small smirk climbing his features briefly again. Though he preferred the company of those that were at last moderately intelligent; idiots were so much easier to incriminate.
These thoughts were put aside completely upon coming to the first door. He tried and failed to keep the sharpness out of his gaze when the woman spoke. It was habit to squint as if he could perhaps take in every bit of information he could in whatever seconds the door remained open. For whatever reason, she reminded him of a well-dressed mouse more than a human, what with the shade of her hair and her small features making her expressions of disdain more exaggerated. Some kind of secretary he judged briefly. About to head to work perhaps. He couldn’t be sure of these judgments, but it didn’t bother Julius to make a guess or two either.
As Alastair pulled out his badge, Julius followed suit pulling out his own without a second thought. The careful words of his partner had Julius resisting the urge to smirk. After five years of working with Alastair, he knew the formality was just that: a formality. Allowing his gaze to remain on the woman, however, Julius caught a subtle change in the woman’s features as the words hit her ears. A pensive press of lips hinted questionable words, and without a second thought, Julius found himself reaching up one hand to briefly touch his temple, his fingers trailing carefully through blue hair before relaxing again. To many, he was just settling a strand of hair; to Julius, he was activating his power.
After a good few seconds or so, the woman’s gaze transitioned from Alastair to Julius and then back again. “I didn’t hear anything,” she stated straightening a bit as if perhaps to add validity to her own words. Julius, however, was unconvinced. From a combination of his power and his own innate senses, it didn’t sound right. Didn’t feel right. She was too calm almost? It could just be a professional demeanor he reasoned, but the thought was dispelled. While his gut might have accounted for this possibility and accepted it, the lie detector he’d come to possess was not so simply dispelled.
“Ma’am,” Julius began carefully. “Did you notice anything strange then.” He rephrased Alastair’s words just a little, and the woman’s pensive look came again. Julius smiled as pleasantly as he could. The woman sighed, closing the door to unlock the last latch before opening it fully. “There were a couple of lights that were flickering,” she finally replied making a gesture towards the window across the first room and to the alleyway. “I don’t know what was going on but it could have been something.” She finished lamely.

This woman of course, was the stereotypical worker bee who could care less as long as she got to work on time. Her look and tone made him inwardly sigh. Slipping his badge away when he was done with it, he almost stared at her with undisguised irritation- but thankfully his years on the force gave him a ridiculously good poker face. What did this woman have blasting in her ears? Gunshots were pretty loud- even most people recognized them even if they only complained about the sound in the first place. Not letting his eyes flick to Julius though he certainly wanted to give an amused look. They were both about as convinced as skeptics at another festival. Julius had his whole weird lie-detector power- but they both had experience which this woman did not. Though Julius was probably considered the pretty-man out of the two, according to the computer-geek who continued to visit him to fix his computer as they switched over to the new system- he wasn’t surprised when Julius rephrased. Alastair’s snark bubbled up behind his lips ‘lights, flickering, no it was just the normal rave party in the alleyway before they got carted off by aliens so they could make a sit-com.’ Of course lights were flickering, Alastair muttered mentally. Gunshots did that. Her house was spotless as well- and Alastair didn’t make a move to show that he cared. He had been in worse, he had no idea why she decided to hide. Absently, Alastair picked out of his pocket his small notepad to briefly write down the apartment number and the answer to Julius’ question in shorthand. “Do you know what time that was around?” It was airy, as he tried to keep his voice more friendly than flatly toneless- which was easy to mistake as not caring or angry. If she really didn’t want to get involved with the cops for a reason, then she knew or suspected a person or persons that did the crime. Normally people would babble to him, but she seemed too tightly wound. The time was an innocent question, but Julius might be able to pry something out of her with his power or something. She didn’t seem all that friendly towards him. The news was right around that time, and she could have been looking at the clock, all things that could have given someone with a routine, a idea about the time. Tag:@ Julius Pierson
