Mikhail wasn’t in his classroom at the moment. From the board lines and notes drawn upon it, it was clear he had been, however, and upon a front table, several stacks of papers sat in a messy sort of ‘order’. The door to the instrument lock up was slightly ajar. To anyone who knew the carefulness of Mikhail, it was clear something unplanned for had caused him to step out for a moment. Hopefully he would be back soon, though. Yes, indeed. It would take five minutes before the sounds of feet stepping up to the classroom would become audible enough, yet sure enough, the young man who would poke his head through the door would be none other than Mikhail Maksim himself.
Prim and proper as always, the young man carried himself into the room, hands once pinned behind his back relaxing to his sides as he caught sight of who it was in his room. “Tati,” he commented coolly. “You know the desks aren’t for sitting on but sitting at.” A genuine lack of persistence on the matter sat upon his lips, but it was clear not because he would normally allow such a thing. His gaze was somewhat tired looking, as if perhaps he had not slept much the night before, and though he came to stand in front of her with ease, it was clear he would have preferred to sit.

- Level-headed, goal oriented, and an utter work-a-holic, Mikhail is very grounded, logical, and strict in his ways. His past has taught that hard-work , knowledge, and determination are the keys to success, and Mikhail holds these as key values in how he chooses to live his life. He is very academic, one who feels knowledge can be applied in more than one way, and he strives to share a natural love of knowledge with others. That being said, he can come off as a know-it-all and domineering in his fields, readily being argumentative and never one to back down. He is temperamental with those who do not share core values or at the very least some sort of drive in life, and he can be very pushy socially and otherwise in order to get others moving.
Despite having a very mobile nature, he is not flippant, impulsive, or brash. Decisions are made with care so that he might feel no regret in going for them. He is incredibly thoughtful, as one who attempts to take in every fact he can in order to make the proper decision. He can be on the fence on a lot of subjects due to conflicting ideals, but the things he has made a choice about and decided to follow are not so wishy-washy. He is very proud of who he is and therefore is proud of his decisions and actions- even those that may not be the best. That does not mean he does not recognize he has faults. Mikhail is very aware he does. He just strives to do the best with what he has in what situation he is put in. In this way, he has few regrets about anything.
History
The youngest of the Maksim biological children, Mikhail would grow up in a bustling but loving family. In the arms of not only his parents but older siblings, he was cared for and could want for little. As children do, the young boy grew quickly in his early years, running only after a few steps of walking and spattering mixes of Russian and English as words came. He grew up chasing after his elder siblings, imitating their ways, and falling into routine practices and chores with little complaint along the way. The family ethics of hard-work and drive were instilled in him naturally before he would even realize it, and before he had even started school, Mikhail was already taking care of his room chores and some house chores to the best of his tiny human abilities.
A natural academic from the very beginning, Mikhail loved learning at school about as much as he had at home. His teachers found his inquisitive nature to be a blessing, and his willingness to read on his own time made him generally more knowledgeable than most of his class. Mature for a boy, he made better friends with the girls in his classroom than his male peers. Early on, there was some minor teasing for this, yet when Mikhail showed a surprising fierceness and intolerance for being the victim, those who would have bothered him began to avoid him. Behind his back, he began to earn less than appreciative nicknames, yet as someone not inherently self-conscious, he didn’t take these to heart even when they did come to light. His peers found him extremely strong in that regard, and he made and lost friends in time due to this.
Through his years of growing up, Mikhail always stayed rather close to family. Yes he had a few friends of sorts, those who were able to take his ‘take me as I am’ personality and the like. However, he always felt more settled when at home, more in control of whatever situation was threatening his sanity. Following after his siblings’ inclination for music, he learned to play the viola and the harp after the basic piano lessons. He learned to cook decently, but the way in which he showed his affections was almost strictly through music. It became his ambition, his interest, and his light much like his brother before him. In all three years of middle school, he was first chair in the orchestra, much to his pride.
As the family grew with the adoption of his two younger siblings, Mik found a little jealousy at no longer being the baby. However, he came to love them in time. They all shared a Russian tongue, and somehow it made them feel more connected to him. He did what he could to help them when they needed it, much like his elder siblings did, and in time, they became family, simply that. He was proud to call them sisters.
High school was a bit of a stress, mostly because his ambition drove him to take as many courses as possible. He took summer school courses starting before his freshman year and was taking community college level courses and AP courses by his junior and senior years. Despite the physical pains and exhaustion it put him through, he did surprisingly well. He had the focus, ambition, and drive to go for what he wanted, and upon graduating, not only did he have college credits, he was valedictorian of his class. Just that status alone allowed him to choose any college he wanted. He chose a liberal arts school that would take most (if not all) of his credits and from there entered the music program. Though there had always been a steady undertone that he would need to find an occupation for music (and that there were more limited options for musicians than say other majors), he was determined to show it was possible to succeed.
With more time to take the courses he wanted to and with a minor interest in psychology, Mikhail took a few psych classes before deciding not to minor but double major in Music and Psychology. His workload was immense, but he still pushed through doing surprisingly well in both. His family worried here and there that he was working himself ragged, but he kept assuring them he would be fine. At the suggestion of one of his professors, he got his teacher’s certification alongside a busy as hell senior year. He swore several times he was going to fail, yet somehow he managed to get through it all and graduate (a few points short of honors that he kicked himself for).
It was indeed difficult to get work after graduation. He was lucky enough to get a teaching job at a high school, but he internally felt it would not be his forever –occupation. When the event occurred, he was approached by a god whom offered him a wish. Awkwardly almost, he wished to further his education, and with that, he was given an insignia and power. The day after, he received a letter in the mail. Barclay had accepted his application for a masters’ program in Music Therapy. Mik was surprised, for sure. He’d never submitted an application. He remembered his wish shortly after and decided to take up the “offer” to start graduate school. Since then, he’s been working himself with “two sets of classes”- day school and night school.
Insignia Level 1
Mikhail’s insignia takes the form of his fingernails being “naturally painted” white.
Sleep Inducement – Level 1 – Mikhail’s power comes when he plays music and seems to sporadically turn on and off. While he can turn it on willingly and shut it off knowingly, sometimes he doesn’t realize it has accidentally turned on of its own accord. His power causes those who hear whatever music he happens to be playing to be lulled into a gentle sleep. How long it will take to lull someone to sleep depends more on the person than Mikhail. Those with more energy will take longer while those who are already tired will find it easy to go to sleep. Those who cannot effectively hear the music when it is supercharged by this power will not be affected. Mikhail can use it willingly several times a day in fifteen minute intervals and not in direct succession.
Mikhail’s passive takes the form of a snowy owl named Katya. She sees herself a very noble bird and holds herself as such.
Extra
Due to his strict focus on academics, he has never had a date, never been kissed, never even considered his sexuality. He wouldn’t necessarily be opposed to a relationship but would not know how to start one or what or who he is even interested in.
He is the only one of the biological children to have their mother’s eyes. He very much likes them.
