Someday~
History Born to a wealthy ship manufacturer, Melody was well cared for and never wanted for a thing. Running before she learned to walk, her parents were constantly chasing after her and making sure she didn’t get into trouble. Despite this, Melody was close to her parents and loved learning about all the ships that they made. They were her playground and she learned more about them just by running around the halls and various rooms in the ships especially where all the best hiding places were. She kept her parents on their toes and constantly asked questions about the various workings of the ships which they happily answered.
Early on it became evident that art was Melody’s passion. She loved to draw and paint and even used the wall of some of her father’s ships as a canvas for some of her masterpieces. Through the years she became a bit of a wild card and got into trouble more often than not as she looked for more fun and creative things to do. One of her favorite things to do was hang out with the other sailors when they came ashore because they always had the best stories to tell. She loved to hear all the different places that they had gone and dreamed of visiting them one day too.
Melody was homeschooled most of her life since her father’s work kept them constantly travelling it seemed which was something she loved honestly. It was a new adventure each and every day and she couldn’t wait to see what each day had in store for her. Melody loved learning and excelled at school and was driven to succeed. She wanted to be just like the sailors that talked about their adventures overseas and have adventures of her own. Her daddy said that she would be able to go to places if she was good and did well in school and this made Melody all the more determined to do just that.
Years went by and by the time that Melody was high school age, her father had found a more stable job that meant they didn’t have to move around near as often. This meant that she could attend a real high school and Melody was very excited to say the least of things. She couldn’t wait to see what a real high school was like. As it turned out, high school was everything that Melody thought it would be and more. She loved being able to talk to kids her own age and tell about her ‘adventures,’ if they could be called that, on the different ships her dad made. Melody became one of the popular kids and before she knew it, had more friends than she could count. School wasn’t even hard for her and she breezed through the subjects with ease but her favorite subject by far was art. All the different techniques and styles that she was learning were awe-inspiring and she simply couldn’t learn enough. Her teacher called her a natural and with his insistence, she entered into a few art competitions and even won some of them.
High school was over way too fast for Melody and she graduated with honors and even a scholarship to one of the well-known art colleges. Even better, the college wasn’t that far from where her family was stationed so she could still visit them when she was free. College life was certainly more difficult than Melody had imagined it to be but at the same time she loved it. There was much more freedom in college than she had in high school and there were times she partied of course but then, all work and no play was just boring. As an art student, she had a little more freedom then most considering most of her assignments were drawing some piece or another, most of which she was able to do on her own time. There were some difficult classes, and of course she made sure to attend every class and do the work but there was more to college life than just studying.
Melody was very social and loved to hang out with her friends, go to the movies, and even attend a few parties with them. There were a few boys that came and went in her life but they never stuck around long mostly because Melody saw no need to have a guy around. Sure, they were fun and some were nice to talk to but she just didn’t want to have a guy define who she was and thus far that is exactly what each guy had tried to do. She didn’t want to be pressured or changed to fit some kind of ideal, if they didn’t like who she was well, they could just get the hell out of her life. It was around this time that Melody met Julius shortly after a pretty terrible break up and at first, she wanted nothing to do with him. They fought like cats and dogs at first and could not stay in the same room together without one or both of them yelling at the other. Things eventually calmed between them when they found out that they did have some things in common. They started hanging out more often and Melody found that she was actually enjoying his company now that they weren’t fighting all the time. For some unfathomable reason, Julius seemed to be spending more and more time with her to the point that Melody joked that he was stalking her. It wasn’t necessarily a bad thing, but Melody grew tired of having him try to always spend time with her.
A few years later, Julius was discharged from the navy and Melody found it harder to find reasons to stay away from him. It was almost irritating how much he followed her around like some helpless puppy, or so it seemed. She was still in college after all and had her own studies to attend to and this was perhaps one of the reasons she encouraged him to return to college. If nothing else, it would keep him out of her hair for longer periods of time while she worked on her latest art projects and spent time with her friends. Thankfully, her application to go abroad that she had submitted months prior to Julius getting discharged was finally approved and Melody excitedly told all her friends, family, and Julius of course if only to see his reaction. Paris was amazing and though it was hard work, Melody loved every minute of it, she was able to see the real masterpieces first hand and was able to learn from the world’s most talented artists. Sure she missed her friends but that was nothing in comparison to how much she was learning and she was able to talk to them still at least. When she finally did return home it was almost surprising how much she had missed her friends and family, even Julius. The time away from him had helped a lot and in a moment of weakness, she even agreed to be his girlfriend.
Shortly after Melody returned from Paris, Julius decided to join the police force instead which Melody supported him on. As long as he was happy, that was really all that mattered in the end even if that meant he was going to be possibly risking his life just like when he was in the navy. While Julius worked to become a police officer, Melody continued with her studies in school and grew closer to him during that time. Sure, they were both busy at times but Melody found that she was often looking forward to spending time with him. She would graduate college a few months later with a guaranteed job as a data analyst on top of that. To say Melody was ecstatic would be an understatement, even more so when Julius became a police officer. Melody couldn’t have been happier or more proud of him and it seemed that life just kept getting better when Julius proposed to her shortly thereafter.
Not long after that, their first daughter, Leia was born and Melody couldn’t have been happier. She had never imagined that being a mother could be so much fun and though it was tiring work at first, she loved every minute of it. Julius was doing well at work and even got promoted to a detective. Not long after that, Riley was born and though it was difficult with two young girls running around, Melody somehow managed it and started to work from home. Things were just beginning to even out when Julius’ partner was shot and from then on it seemed that life went into a tailspin. Though she hadn’t necessarily been close to Julius’ partner, she saw how much it had affected him and Melody did her best to comfort and encourage him. Some time later, Julius did eventually accept another partner which was something of a relief to Melody. At least she didn’t have to worry about him quite as often anymore.
When the event occurred, Melody was livid to say the least. She didn’t want to be trapped in a glorified prison and immediately wished for freedom when asked what she wanted. Peace at least seemed to be sympathetic and though she wasn’t allowed out of the toy box, her power and passive almost made up for it. Almost. Insignia Level 1
Melody’s insignia is that of a dandelion being blown by the wind amidst a flock of birds. The mark starts on her lower right hip and twists around her back up to her right shoulder.
Wing Generation - Level 1 – Once Melody activates her insignia, she is able to grow feather wings not unlike those of a bird with which she is able to fly. It is inherently painful to produce and remove the wings thus Melody generally does not have the wings unless she wants to use them for a while. It takes energy to generate the wings and is not possible if Melody is sick or injured in any way. After she initially generates the wings, she has to wait approximately ten minutes before the wings are dry enough to use for flying. In flight, Melody can be shot down or have her wings broken if she runs into anything and thus she is vulnerable when flying and just like with birds, cannot fly if her wings are broken or battered. Should this happen, Melody must expend the energy to remove the wings and then has to wait until she has fully healed or a day, whichever comes later, before she can attempt to generate the wings again.
Passive – Perfect Storm is a Gypsy Vanner stallion who loves to run and doesn’t like to be tied down or even wear a saddle. Storm can be a little protective of Melody and her family and refuses to let anyone ride him without his express permission. He is able to speak some English but only when he wants to, otherwise only Melody is able to understand him. Storm is rather proud and vain and loves to be groomed and pampered. As proud as he is, Storm is really a gentle giant and loves being around kids and has a playful, friendly nature around those he trusts.
Extra
- Melody will never back down from a dare or a challenge even if it’s dangerous or crazy.
- She loves anything and everything about art and has tried her hand at a lot of different techniques but her favorite mediums are graphite, pastels and oils, and clay.
- She has her own studio where she works on her art commissions and other pieces that she’s working on just for her own enjoyment.
- Due to several long, sleepless nights at college, she is addicted to caffeine and will get migraines if she goes even a day without it.
- Melody cannot cook to save her life and prefers to order in. Most of the meals she ‘cooks’ are frozen TV dinners or something equally as easy to fix.
