She’s a rebellious tomboy.
History Born to Kristen Williams and Jaden Alabaster, Jasmine never really knew her father since her mother hadn’t parted with Jaden on good terms and after year shoved him out of both their lives. After that, Kristen got a job while Jazz spent most of her time with babysitters since mom was gone a lot of the time. Kristen didn’t want to be reminded of Jaden in any way and for a while it was hard to look at Jazz even. By the time Jazz started school, Kristen started dating other guys and met Stephen Lawson, a rich young lawyer who adored Jazz and tried to win her over. It was pretty easy to win the young girl over with promises of sweets and other things she loved. For the first time since the break-up, Kristen was happy again and started spending more time at home.
Jazz loved being able to spend more time with her mom and loved school and being able to learn new things. She took to science right away and asked for things like Legos and other things so that she could build things with. Stephen was quick to give Jazz the things she wanted but Kristen was beginning to see too much of Jaden in her daughter and was quick to distract her with ‘normal’ little girl things. Jazz wasn’t as interested in such things though and complained rather loudly whenever she was forced to wear dresses. They were uncomfortable and she wasn’t able to run around as much in them. Kristen however wanted her daughter to be her little princess and started to withhold things from her until she listened. Stephen did his best to temper Kristen but eventually he sided with her and became stricter with Jazz.
At first, Jazz listened to what her mom and Stephen said though all bets were off when she was at school. There she could be herself and not have to worry about manners or what was ‘proper’ for a girl her age and was actually encouraged in her love of math and sciences. Jazz found that she loved to build things and at a young age she was found to be talented and was given extra lessons to build on that. Unlike when she was at home where she was told no more often than not, Jazz flourished at school and even skipped a couple grades in order to challenge her because she was bored. Kristen was proud of her and rewarded her for her good work but this only lasted for a short time until she once again pushed Jazz into doing more ‘normal’ stuff for girls her age. Jazz was enrolled into pageants and forced to prance around like she was some piece of meat on show for a panel of judges.
She hated it, hated the girls that actually chose to do this, hated everything about it but it wasn’t until Stephen proposed that Jazz was able to convince him to try and make her mother stop the torture. He did, but even after the wedding Kristen refused to withdraw Jazz from them. That was the first time Jazz ran away from home, packing what few clothes and other necessities she could carry and ran off without telling anyone. That was the first time that Jade was called to help Kristen find Jazz and the first time she realized that Stephen wasn’t actually her real father; Jade was. In the end, it was Jade who convinced her to return home on the condition that she wouldn’t be tortured anymore. She found that she could relate more to Jade than to her own mother and Stephen and started to rebel against Kristen more and even chopped off all her hair because she was tired of it. It wasn’t until Kristen came home and grounded her that Jazz allowed her mother to take her to the salon to make her look somewhat presentable.
As Jazz started middle school, she started to join more clubs and other activities including science club and well, anything else that she knew her mother hated. Kristen on the other hand had other things in mind and forced Jazz to try out to be a cheerleader which she purposely did horribly on just to spite her mother. Instead, she tried out for baseball and basketball and even learned how to skateboard, anything to avoid going back home to her mother and step dad that she hated. To make matters worse, her mother just found out she was pregnant and was now putting more pressure on Jazz to be the ‘perfect’ daughter. Ha! Like that would ever happen considering she had lied about her father for most of her life. Jazz started to wear clothes that she knew her mom disapproved of and did the exact opposite of whatever her mom wanted her to be. Jazz was done trying to fit into the perfect princess mold and wasn’t about to listen to the witch that had lied to her for so long.
Without her mother’s knowledge, Jazz found out that her dad had had other children and sought them out. When she was thirteen, she finally met her brother and took him under her wing. Jazz liked him and how they liked the same things, it was more natural talking to him than her own parents even. Kristen did eventually find out and at first she was furious but after some talking to, she relented and reluctantly allowed Jazz to see her half-siblings. Around this time, Kristen had the baby, a little boy, and for a while she was distracted from Jazz and didn’t even try to criticize her attire or behavior at school. It was pure bliss, and Jazz took advantage of it in order to enroll in more science and engineering classes when high school enrollment came around. She loved the classes and did well in them, it was exciting to see what they would do in lab and the projects were actually fun. Nothing at all like the boring home economics or cooking class that Kristen had once insisted she take before the baby was born.
This could only last so long however before Kristen’s attention turned to Jazz once again and grounded her for seemingly no reason. This time however, Jazz retaliated by taking things apart around the house, small things at first like the baby’s favorite toy. The look on her mother’s face was amusing as she yelled and ranted while the baby screamed his little head off. Jazz didn’t care though, she was long past caring, as far as she was concerned, she wasn’t going to listen to Kristen or Stephen any longer. More things started to show up torn apart around the house the more Kristen berated her about her choices, a blender here, the good vacuum cleaner, even the toaster was taken apart with the parts neatly laid out. Oh yes, Jazz would put them back together again but only if her mother lifted some restriction. It was a way to manipulate her mother and Jazz loved every minute of it. She even started building a motorcycle in secret, and well, if her mother found out and complained yet another appliance would be found in pieces.
Between the screaming baby and Kristen trying to force Jazz into the perfect princess mold, Jazz started to run away more often and often ‘camped’ out in the park or somewhere where she could be alone. Yes, she would be dragged back each and every time but it was worth it for at least one night of bliss. When the event happened, Jazz was confused that there was even such a thing as gods. Science was her ‘god,’ it was explainable at the very least but whatever the case she wished for a tool box that had whatever tool she needed at any given moment. The wish was easily granted and she was given a power and a familiar along with it. It was…odd to say the least of things but oh well, perhaps this ‘game’ wouldn’t be so bad after all.
Insignia Level 1
Jazz’s insignia is a tree whose trunk looks like that of a DNA double helix spiral and branches grow out of it with flowers blooming from it. The tree itself is a little larger than a baseball and is on her upper right arm and shoulder.
Truth Serum - Level 1 – Jazz is able to will anyone to tell the truth despite how badly they wish to lie. In order for her power to work, she has to be in contact with the person and cannot break eye contact or it will not work. Once she is touching her target, she ‘sweats’ a toxin of sorts that is absorbed into the other person’s skin. If they should try to lie or resist it will get inherently more painful as the toxin attacks their nervous system. After Jazz releases them, the toxin disappears and is rendered harmless. She can only do this for up to 5 minutes at a time and can only do this once per day. Afterwards, she suffers migraines and has to rest because it is extremely draining for her.
Passive – A fancy wrist watch that can change color to match her outfit and is able to speak. Jazz calls it Chip and it is very sarcastic and has an almost dry English accent.
Extra
- She tends to take things apart just to see what makes them work. Jazz may or may not put them back together again, it just depends on her mood.
- Jazz despises dresses or anything considered girly.
- Don’t call her Jasmine, Rose, or any variation of the name. She will only answer to Jazz, anything else will get you punched.
