Someday \o/
History Born the third child and second daughter to the Rosstillo family, Evelyn set herself apart from her elder sister right from the start. She seemed to take more after her brother Alex, being a calm and all-together quiet and low-maintenance child. Nothing really seemed to get under her skin or upset her at all. If one of her siblings took what she was playing with, she would simply give it up and find something else to do. Her fuse seemed to be impossibly long, and even when her anger did spark the girl was more prone to tears than any sort of violent or loud reaction. She was easily overshadowed by her sisters, however, it never seemed to bother her. She wasn’t excluded, after all, and her opinion was taken when she cared to voice it. However, for all intents and purposes, it seemed that Evelyn was more interested in the happiness, wants, and needs of her siblings than her own.
The girl had little interest in sports or physical activities, however, like many of her siblings she held a deep love of nature and adored being outside when the weather was nice. She didn’t necessarily like getting dirty, so there was no tree-climbing going on for her, but she would happily sit under the tree and read a book while everyone else did what they wanted. She worried for her siblings excessively, and often followed them to places she wouldn’t have went on her own just to make sure they were okay. This, of course, broadened her horizons quite a bit and taught her to be a little less rigid. She learned about everything they liked to do, and supported them in it.
As pageants became a family affair, Evelyn quickly expressed her interest in competing in them. Perhaps her initial interest came from the fact that Alex liked them, perhaps it was something else, but the girl had never quite been so vocal about wanting to do anything else before. She was enrolled in her first pageant and fell in love right out the door. Her quietness, previously, had been mistaken for shyness but she quickly proved that she was not in the least bit shy. She seemed to come alive on the stage, basking in the attention and even more so in winning. She loved to win, and would often become rather distressed when she did not. No matter how many times it was explained to her that having fun was the most important, winning became something like an obsession for her.
She made ‘friends’ readily with the girls who competed alongside her, seemingly more interested in their friendship than the girls she went to school with – since she had never befriended them. However, friendship with the people she competed with was rather… hard and slightly toxic. Backhanded compliments and passive aggressive behavior was the norm, and you never quite said the same things to someone’s face as you did behind their back. Evelyn knew it was wrong, and to start out with she tried to keep herself from falling into those behaviors, however peer pressure and her burning desire to win every pageant she entered had her soon acting quite a bit like the other girls. The older she got, the more vicious the behaviors seemed to get, and while she wasn’t quite as bad as others, to say that she never did or said anything underhanded would be a lie.
While her brother dealt with a more extreme form of bullying, Evelyn dealt with bullying of her own. Phrases such as, “That dress is so pretty, but don’t you think it would lay better if you lost about five pounds?” Or, “It’s a shame your lips aren’t fuller, your face would be perfect then.” were taken to heart. By the time she entered high school, Evelyn’s entire self-worth centered around what she looked like. She never developed an eating disorder, however, the previously almost lazy girl became almost obsessed with working out. She wanted to be perfect. There was always something in her physical appearance that she could fix, something she had to fix.
It was around this time that the vacation home in America was bought. Evelyn was less than interested in spending her summers there, however, several of her siblings seemed excited about it, and so she kept it to herself as always. She was told she could compete in pageants in America, and that made her at least slightly more excited. She worked on perfecting her English so she wouldn’t lose points due to being unable to properly express herself, and quickly she became fluent in the language. She didn’t find it to be quite as pretty as French, but it had its own… charm. She found American pageants to be largely the same as pageants in France. Having become more athletic than she’d ever been before, gymnastics and dancing quickly became her pageant talents.
As she aged, and continued to surround herself with her toxic pageant friends, Evelyn’s demeanor seemed to go from quiet to cold. These girls didn’t exactly paint a pretty picture of the world, after all, no matter how beautiful they all were. Perhaps if she had just spent a bit of time befriending other people she wouldn’t have decided that basically everyone outside of her family was untrustworthy. Maybe if she’d befriended people who built her up rather than tore her down, she wouldn’t have had to turn to being detached and cold to protect herself, but there was no point in dwelling on maybes. As far as Evelyn was concerned, since pageants were one of the only things she loved doing, the people just came with it. How could someone who didn’t do it understand, after all? The few people she did talk to at school often expressed that they didn’t know why she spent so much time with it all. Why did getting her new dance routine down matter more than them? Her pageant friends understood, though. So she stuck with them.
One might think, given her personality, that Evelyn would have dated a lot through school – but she didn’t. At least, never while she was in France. There was just something entirely unappealing about the boys in France, and the last thing she wanted to do was date one of her pageant ‘friends’. No matter how jaded and blind she appeared to be about how they treated her, she knew well what a relationship like that would lead to. One summer in America, however, she developed a relationship with one of her male friends. It worked because, since she was away in France most of the time anyway, he didn’t expect a lot of her time. They got to know each other, and Evelyn fell in love with him. Skype calls were frequent, and it was rather hard to separate the girl from her phone most of the time.
However, things only seemed to get worse for her when not only Alex but also Vivien attended college in America. She had always been more influenced by them than her younger siblings, and with them gone she spent even more time around her so-called friends. Perhaps if not for the event, her personality would have degraded even more, but as it was, the event was almost like a blessing to her. It trapped her entire family together, though she was less than pleased about it. She had been planning on attending college in France, and now she was forced to attend Barclay instead. Never one to openly complain, however, she kept her bitterness and anger over the fact to herself.
Approached by a god and offered a wish, Evelyn wished for grace, talent, and beauty. These things were rather obscure, but she did find that her movements, speech, and just general aura seemed to be more graceful from there on out. Her physical appearance didn’t change, but perhaps that is because she was offered one wish and not three. Her insignia, a rather elegant Japanese Crane, appeared down the length of her back and she was granted her power.
Her first several months in America went well enough. Her boyfriend seemed excited by the prospect that they could spend more time together and, initially, she was as well. However, she quickly began to feel suffocated by him. Like so many people outside of her social circle before him, he became hurt when Evelyn chose pageant practice above him. The relationship fizzled out, with Evelyn ending it before either party could be more hurt. The tears she shed over it were shed by herself, and she closed that door as she entered college and started working on her degree, attempting to balance that with her regular pageant schedule as well.
Insignia Level 1 Enhanced Flexibility – Level One – Evelyn is, basically, a lot more flexible than the average person. She can contort and bend her body in ways that should pop her joints out of place or displace an organ. However, due to her power she can do these things pretty much effortlessly. She does have limits with how much she can contort her body, though. For example, she can only bend where her body already has joints. At this level there is also still a risk of her popping something out of place or tearing a tendon if she pushes herself too much or tries to contort too quickly.
Lily – Passive – Evelyn’s passive takes the form of a singular lily. It has no roots, and has been cut off at the stem, but it has yet to die. She tends to keep it in a vase in her room, and it changes colors depending on the weather. It seems to turn with her while she’s in the room, always facing her and perhaps ‘watching’ her no matter where she is. Sometimes she uses it as an accessory, and when she does, it changes color to match her outfit.
Extra - She is very much into fashion and beauty products. She spends hours shopping, fixing her hair, fixing her make-up, and just generally making sure that she looks perfect.
- She is more than happy to help her sisters out when it comes to fashion and just superficial things. She loves fixing their hair and make-up when they'll allow it.
- She still competes in pageants, and has never lost any of her passion for it. It's just an excuse to get more dressed up, after all.
- She wants to be a model, but despite continuous assurances from basically everyone that she is pretty enough, she doesn't find herself to be.
