You don't even wanna know more about him, tbh. It's terrible.
History Sebastian and Hanako Walker met in their last year of college, going through a whirlwind romance that ended with them getting married shortly after they graduated. Hanako’s family couldn’t have approved of Sebastian more. While he didn’t come from any sort of wealth, the man was hard-working and driven, which were traits that Hanako’s family really admired and looked for in a good person. Unfortunately, while Sebastian was certainly hard working, Hanako would quickly find that he was a rather detached and apathetic partner once they had settled. He didn’t spend a lot of time with her, and soon enough she found herself lonely. She told him she wanted to have a baby, and he agreed easily enough. Her family’s connections had landed him a good job, and with his work ethic he was quickly heading straight toward the top.
Unfortunately, having a baby wouldn’t be simple for the couple. After a year of trying and failing, they went to see a doctor. The quality of Hanako’s eggs was very poor for reasons that the doctors couldn’t really determine. She was beside herself with grief, and Sebastian was ill equipped to deal with his wife’s raw emotions. They grew apart, and it would be a couple of years before Hanako asked about getting IVF treatments. The first treatment seemed to take, and soon enough Hanako found herself pregnant. She was ecstatic, and she and Sebastian’s relationship improved immensely during the pregnancy.
She seemed to develop just about every gestational problem a woman could develop, though, and the fact that she was pregnant with twins didn’t help anything. She was on bed rest from her fourth month on, and her sister actually moved in with her so that she wouldn’t have to be alone during the day. At around seven months, the doctors would decide it would be safer to remove the babies via c-section. Quite unfortunately, only one of the babies would survive, the other being much too small and sickly. Grayson’s brother didn’t even live a day, but he did. He was strong and surprisingly healthy. He more or less took all of the nutrients for himself in the womb, and he still doesn’t know he was born with a twin brother.
Hanako was told that it would be in her best interest to never get pregnant again, and Sebastian refused to put her in that danger. She poured all of her love into her new baby boy, and spoiled him beyond belief. He became unhealthily dependent on her, and he would never have anything to do with his father. When he was old enough to start school, she insisted that he be homeschooled. By this point, Grayson’s parents were fighting all the time. He can remember his father repeated saying that his mother either was ruining or had ruined him depending on the day. The screaming fights took their toll on his young mind, forever warping his idea of any sort of healthy relationships. In some ways, his father tried to fix the damage his mother was doing to him. He tried to take Grayson out and bond with him, but he always seemed to fail. Because no matter how much Hanako forced herself on him, he was and would forever be almost eerily similar to his father in personality. He cared little for people in general, and since his mother was stunting his social skills so drastically, he couldn’t connect with other children when he was out of the house.
He was twelve when he found his father cheating. He was quick to tell his mother, who reacted violently and emotionally. Neither of the males knew how to handle her erratic emotions, and when she stormed out the door, neither tried to stop her. They both just sort of stood around dumbfounded. Sebastian put Grayson to bed when she didn’t come back, but he didn’t think much about it. His mother had left for days before, after all, she just typically took him with her.
Unfortunately, however, his mother wouldn’t be returning from this trip. He spent nearly two weeks in anxiety over it before his father finally worked up the nerve to tell him. The news was delivered coldly and briefly, and when his cried, his father patted his back awkwardly for all of three minutes before he left the room. Grayson was left completely alone to cope with the death of his mother, and finally he more or less wadded the painful emotions up and stored them somewhere in the recesses of his mind. He has never come to terms with it, and tends to pretend that he never had a mother in the first place. All of the pictures he has of her are hidden in a box that is kept at the back of his closet, and he refuses to speak of her.
Two years later, his father would receive a job offer in Sumner City. They were willing to pay him double what he was already making, so he packed Grayson and his girlfriend up and moved them down south. Grayson hated it. New York City was so much better than Sumner City. It was too hot and everyone talked funny, and he just hated it. He was also mercilessly tossed into public school for his freshmen year of high school. He spent the first several weeks awkward and alone. He was too full of himself to break down and make friends, thinking himself better than all of his classmates. All he wanted was to move back to New York and never leave his room. It wouldn’t be too long into his first semester that he would meet Felix, though, and things would change. The kid just didn’t seem to want to leave him alone, and how did he have so many friends anyway? Somehow, slowly, he became Grayson’s friend too. The first friend he’d ever had, and only real friend he would ever make.
By the start of his sophomore year, Grayson seemed to be settling in. He wasn’t awkward anymore, having picked up a lot of social skills from Felix over the course of their relationship. It would be with these new skills and new friends, however, that he discovered that something seemed to be fundamentally wrong with him. He didn’t care. He did not give one single fuck about any of his supposed new friends. He didn’t care if they were sad, hell, he didn’t care if they died or moved and never came back. They were a means to an end, they were tolerated because Felix liked them, they were kept around because he liked the attention.
At some point, he’s not sure when but he’s pretty sure he was around sixteen, he started caring about Felix, though. It was strange and jarring. It was like he woke up one day and he suddenly had this really strong attachment that he still doesn’t understand. But suddenly, Felix mattered. His happiness mattered, he needed to be around, no one was ever allowed to hurt him. He started to enjoy hugging, cuddling, and simply touching the other boy – whereas these actions in the past had simply been reciprocated as expected. In a way, he began to cling to Felix a bit.
Things would continue in this way until the end of high school, when he would receive a very jarring wake up call to the fact that his father was still around and paying attention to his life. When he approached the man about how he was going to pay for college, the answer was simple. “You’ll go to school to become a lawyer, I’ll pay for it, and you can continue living in this house.” He wasn’t sure what to say. He never wanted to be a lawyer, it was way too stiff and uptight, and yet… what could he do? Rely on Felix, surely, but a certain amount of pride kept him from doing so. Grudgingly he entered school with his chosen major, and kept his grades at B’s or above – or else.
When the event happened, Grayson was more or less baffled. He had never been raised with any particular religion, nor had he given any thought to it. His wish was stuttered out stupidly and randomly – he really just wanted a lot of chicken tenders, so that’s what he got. His insignia appeared on his chest, basically a swirly design on his chest that makes about as much sense as his wish did.
Insignia Level 1 Environmental Adaptation – Level One – This power is pretty simple, and Grayson has no conscious control over it. His body can more or less adapt to just about any situation to keep him alive. At this level, it basically manifests itself in the ability for Grayson to remain comfortable at any temperature. He could walk around naked outside in freezing weather or wear several layers of clothes in hot weather and not freeze or have a heat stroke. At later levels he will be able to survive more environmental changes such as being able to see in the dark, breath under water, etc., but right now those abilities have yet to surface.
The Book – Passive – Due to his intense hate of animals, Grayson’s passive doesn’t really take the form of anything living. After his power was granted, he found a little black book on his bedside table. When he opened it up, there was a page detailing his power and the fact that he needed to eat and sleep more now since it’s always active. The rest of the pages were blank. It was several weeks before he tried to write anything, and when he did the words seemed to disappear. A few seconds later, new words appeared in a long, flowing handwriting – a snarky message about how he shouldn’t waste his time complaining to an inanimate object.
Extra - He paints his fingernails and toenails black, but he has to remove the polish whenever he goes home for any reason. He tends to have to repaint his fingernails every night cause he chews on them a lot.
- He tries desperately to please his father and get his approval, but the man is as cold and distant as he is. He will never truly get his father's approval, and deep down his knows this, but he can't stop trying.
- He tends to be disgusted by other people in general and views himself as so far above everyone that anything he does to them isn't wrong because he had every right to do it.
- He cannot handle negative emotions at all. He will literally hang up on you, run away, or laugh in your face if you start crying around him. You're here so he can have a good time, so suck it up.
