History
Born as the middle child of four, Justin was raised on a farm along with one older brother, one older sister, and one younger sister to come when he was three. His parents were good hard working people who, after having two children, knew what they were doing by the time he came around. He was handled a bit roughly but with love and good intentions. Thus when he split his head open on the kitchen floor at three years old while trying to climb up to the cookie jar, there wasn’t much panic or blame thrown around, only worry as they rushed him to the hospital. He’d have six stitches on the back of his tiny head, and years later it would become a joke in the family that he’d scrambled his brains there. Truthfully, whether due to the accident or not, Justin has no memories of his early childhood up to that point. Oh well.
What memories Justin has after are rather domestic in nature. He learned the hands on aspects of running a farm alongside the rest of his family, and he was taught to be relatively independent early on. Entrusted with things that needed to get done (on time), he was given enough freedom to go at his own pace but also do them himself and for himself. Hard work taught him well, and he picked up numerous hand skills as well as social skills such as patience and respect. Truthfully, he preferred it to having to go to school when it was finally time to start elementary. He didn’t like most of his peers there and grew frustrated at their antics early on. He was rather quickly the teacher’s pet and had a habit of reporting things to said teacher about other students. He was adored by adults and loathed by most of his peers as a result. By first grade, however, Justin had two very close friends whom he adored for their like-mindedness.
While mature in personality from a young age, Justin struggled in school. Most subjects were very difficult for him, and even the ones he liked didn’t come to him without a considerable amount of studying and repetition on his part. He was often frustrated by his lack of understanding, and he was never satisfied when grades were handed back. It didn’t help that his elder siblings had given the teachers some high expectations for him either. At the very least he was good at numerous sports all but naturally. His PE teachers were very impressed with his capabilities and instinct in most games, and he relished playing quite a bit. He connected a lot better with team mates than he ever did with them during class, to say the least.
In middle school, he was invited to join a number of school sports teams, but considering his priorities were still on the farm first and foremost, he decided to only join one: soccer as one of their Forwards. In terms of speed, he was one of their fastest, and he relished this fact a bit more than he would ever let on. He still wasn’t very well liked by most of his peers whom hadn’t forgiven him for calling them out time and time again, and he still hadn’t stopped doing that either. It seemed the older he grew, the more frustrated he grew with his peers. They simply didn’t understand that what they were doing was childish! Annoyingly childish. He hated all of them and was rather quick to let them know his sentiments as well. Even some of his friends were starting to get rubbed the wrong way by his increasing demand for social perfection.
Meanwhile, things were going well on the farm. The family took in three stray dogs during his three years of middle school, and he was allowed to name one of them. He named it Duke, and he and the dog were pretty much inseparable thereafter. It was also around this time he was allowed to drive the ATVs by himself which was pretty great. He found he liked driving quite a lot mostly due to the independence it involved. However, at the end of eighth grade, Justin managed to ram one of the four wheelers into the side of a barn. While he wasn’t too physically injured outside of a few bruises (and the barn only suffered a few dents), Justin wouldn’t go near an ATV alone thereafter. He was much too shaky though he’d never admit it. It would also cripple his desire to drive a car later in life.
At the start of his fresh man year of high school, Justin joined the JV soccer team and grew unexpectedly popular as he grew taller, thinned out even more, and began to look less ‘cute’ and more ‘handsome’ as his mother once described it. He had his first crush towards the end of freshman year but couldn’t work up enough nerve to go on it. The best he could do was offer a very awkward compliment and run away blushing. His crush never did anything about it to his knowledge. He buried the feelings as best he could and went on with focusing more on school. His teachers took notice of a rather huge spike in his course grades that he would have been proud of had the boy not known exactly what it was from. He didn't want anymore distractions or so he told himself.
As he grew older, Justin began to feel pressure towards making a decision of what to do with his life. His parents assured him he always had the farm; there was always plenty of work to do there. However, Justin wasn't sure if that was what he actually wanted to do with himself. He was changing but not quite mellowing out towards his peers. He was aware of the bad groups in school and disliked them for disrupting the general order of school. Quite a few times, he got into fights with them here and there. His mother kept assuring him that it was better to ignore them, but he just had such a hard time doing that. Why did people have to be like that? The more time that passed, the more he was sure he wanted to do something with that- maybe be a cop or something later in life. He'd think on it.
Justin would be further into high school when his parents stated they were expecting his cousin all the way from Germany. Justin was startled and confused to say the least. He didn’t even know they had family in Germany! His father just swore and asked him not to ask too many questions. Justin shut up rather quickly thereafter. When his cousin finally got there, Justin attempted to be decent. It was the first day, after all. However, they both got off on the wrong foot of sorts, and soon enough both went from casual dislike to intense dislike- or at least Justin felt that way, anyways. There was something about Isidor that Justin just couldn’t like. He was irritating. As he became more and more aware of Isidor’s antics at school, Justin just grew to dislike and mistrust him that much more. He’d seen that personality type before— and hated it. He did what he could to expose Isidor time and time again for being what he growled out to be a snake but with limited results.
When the event happened and Justin was approached by a god and asked for his wish, Justin stuttered into the word ‘steak’ and finished awkwardly with ‘forever’. The god simply stared at him and gave a simple nod, and sure enough the next time he looked in the freezer, there were a number of frozen steaks. Justin was also left with an insignia, power, and familiar thereafter. So far, he thinks his power useful to say the very least.
Insignia Level 1
His insignia takes the form of a mole in the palm of his left hand.
Mental Power Negation – level 1 – Just as it says, Justin is capable of negating the insignias of others- so long as their power is not of a physical nature. It blocks the mind from accessing the power even if a person’s insignia is turned on. He can shut down everything from telepathy/ mentally influential powers to telekinesis so long as it is a “mind based” power of sorts. Things like elemental powers fall under this category as well, normally. Physical powers such as super strength, super agility, and the like are not negated at this level. Justin is capable of negating a power (one person’s power) for up to fifteen minutes before the strain of repression becomes too much. He can use the power up to five times a day if he is careful not to overdo it via repeated successions. Recourse includes headaches.
His familiar is a gray wolf of mid-range height and weight. It is almost solid gray except for clearly white legs and a white underbelly. While the wolf has never spoken to him, Justin is pretty sure its sentient due to its gestures around him.
Extra
He is Isidor’s cousin.
He has a number of the southern gentleman mannerisms but is quick to forsake them for his anger.
