History
Isidor Alois Faust was born on an extremely warm day in the heart of Berlin. He was born at home, with his grandmother as the midwife. His mother was extremely young, only fifteen years old, and her parents had decided she had disgraced the family by getting pregnant so young. She wouldn’t even tell them who the father of the baby was, though she did know. Gisela just didn’t want him to get in trouble, was all. The girl was locked away her entire pregnancy along with her mother. Her father spread the rumor that Gisela was very sick and his wife was looking after her. He also spread the rumor that he and his wife would be having another baby. Therefore, when Isidor was born, it was his grandparents’ names that were put on the birth certificate.
Gisela was not allowed to have much to do with him at all, because her parents were worried that if she took more of an interest than a fifteen year old girl should people would figure it out. Their story was already sketchy at best, after all. It killed Gisela, though. She loved her son more than words could express, and all she wanted was to be a mother to him. She wasn’t really interested in going out with her friends or doing normal teenage things. Ironically enough, she had to be forced to do these things.
Isidor had a fairly average childhood, even if he couldn’t understand why his elder sister always looked like she was about to cry when she had to leave for school. He also didn’t understand why she was so protective of him, or why she was so quick to comfort him when he got hurt. What he didn’t understand most of all, though, was why she seemed to get in trouble for these things. Older sisters were supposed to watch out for their younger siblings, weren’t they?
It was clear from the moment that he started school, however, that he wasn’t exactly normal. His teacher noticed his high intelligence right off the bat, and had him tested to see if he could move forward any grades. He tested at a third grade level, but his grandparents wouldn’t allow him to be moved forward. They insisted that it was much more important for him to be around children his own age. He quickly grew bored with school, though, and started acting out in the classroom. He seemed to attract the attention and loyalty of his classmates right from the very start. Even in primary school he had about four children who would follow him around and do anything and everything that he said. He got quite a kick out of making them do things that would get them in trouble, for whatever reason.
His elder sister and his grandparents did their best to cull this behavior. They told him he should love and cherish his friends – never use them. He assured them that he wouldn’t do it anymore right before he turned around and did it again. The school did their best to separate him from these students, but when he was put into a different class, he merely found students from that class to manipulate and use. This behavior would continue until he was about twelve, and then things would change slightly. He decided it wasn’t fun to get them in trouble anymore, and started to put their loyalty to the test in other ways. He found that when he was kind to them and “protected” them they were even more loyal.
There were about seven students who followed him around and did exactly what he said. He told them they were his family now, and he would take care of them and make sure they always had a place in the world – all they had to do was listen to him. There was one student named Alarik that he was closer to than the rest. This boy had a high intelligence as well, but he always seemed more than willing to go along with whatever Isidor told him to do. He would be fourteen before he noticed how Alarik looked at him, before he realized just why the other boy was so willing to do what he said, why he got so jealous of everyone else, and more importantly why he never left his side. Isidor used this knowledge – of course he did.
He started touching Alarik much more, just simple things at first. Brushing his hand, sitting close to him, wrapping his arm around the other’s shoulders while they walked. Eventually he started brushing his hair from his eyes, and about a year later he kissed him. He realized something with Alarik, though. It wasn’t like the others. He had grown to care for them, yes, but it wasn’t like Alarik. Whether he realized it or not, he had fallen in love with the other boy as well.
It would be his love of the other boy that would eventually be his undoing. Their parents found out about their relationship, and they were none too pleased. Eventually Alarik’s parents would ship him out of country to another school, decisively severing all contact that Isidor had to him. He changed after that. His temper got worse, he hated his parents. He wanted nothing more than to cause them pain and suffering – so that’s exactly what he did. He started slow with the six others he had left. A bit of vandalism here, some gang tags there. He was careful at first. But then he realized that he wasn’t hurting his parents at all if he didn’t get caught – so he would get caught on purpose. He spiraled quickly, and before he knew it, he was arrested for arson.
He had done a good job of brainwashing his followers, though, that was for sure. None of the students, even under threat of jail time, would admit to who their leader was. They were promised to get off without any punishment if they would just tell why they had burned down three buildings in one night. Not one of them told. Isidor was proud of them, but mostly he was proud of himself. That same high he had gotten from getting children in trouble back in primary school was what he felt when they all sat with tight lips and grim faces. The teenagers were all detained, and it would be Gisela who came to pick him up. He knew from the look on her face that he was about to get an earful, but he wasn’t in the mood. Before she could even start, he went on a tirade about how much he hated her, about how she was just his sister and she had no business telling him what to do, about how she was just a pathetic thirty year old who still lived her parents.
She just stared at him for a moment, and then she didn’t say anything at all. Several days later, she came to him. She told him his father had a way for him to get out of trouble, and he would be taking it whether he liked it or not. He didn’t understand at first, and once she explained to him that she was actually his mother and not his sister, he barely believed her. He felt sick and betrayed. Everyone had been lying to him his entire life. He told her that he didn’t want anything from her, or from a father that he had never met. She told him he had no choice. His father had relatives in America, and he would be going to live with them.
It took a lot of screaming, shouting, and getting backhanded several times before he was finally forced on the plane. He sent out a text to his little gang telling them to name him as the reason they had done what they did – it wasn’t like he’d ever be returning to Germany anyway. Whether they got the text or whether they did what he said he would never know. He arrived in Georgia after a long plane ride, and was picked up by his uncle and aunt. They lived on a large farm, and his uncle assured him that with all the work he would be doing, he wouldn’t even have time to think about acting out.
He decided he was going to prove that asshole wrong.
He started his junior year of high school, and despite being a foreigner, he made friends quickly. He found that America students were just as easy to manipulate as German students had been. He began collecting followers not long after, even if they didn’t realize that’s what they were at first. It was around this same time that the event happened, and he was approached by a god and offered a wish. He wished that he could see Alarik again, and he did see the boy, but only for a few seconds before he disappeared again. He was left distraught even as his insignia appeared on his body. It took the form of the words ‘panem et circenses’ across his shoulders. He found it to be hysterically fitting, and was more than pleased with it, really.
He would pitch the idea of becoming a gang to the few people he had decided he could trust not long after. Using his power, they all agreed with him easily.
Insignia Level 1
The Debater – Level One – Isidor's power manifests itself in the form of an auditory illusion, it messes with auditory inputs, making his voice sound more pleasing to their ears – they’ll want to hear him speak just for the experience of it. It won’t even really matter what he’s saying anymore. It's almost like a form of hypnosis, though when it's broken they'll remember what he said, so he still has to be careful with choosing his words. This power takes an extreme toll on him, however, and he can never use it more than once every three days. It drains his energy very quickly, and while he can use it on more than one person at a time, the rate at which his energy is drained doubles for every person. Typically he can only use his power for about twenty minutes on one person. To activate his power, he must also touch the person’s bare skin somewhere as well.
Gisela – Passive – Isidor’s familiar takes the form of a fully grown Siberian tiger. She can speak when she wants, but she speaks exclusively in German. She is always slinking around not far behind Isidor, and he has no problem with using her for protection when he needs to. She will not allow anyone else to touch her, though she’ll give plenty of warnings before she strikes out at someone if they’re getting too close.
Extra - He considers his gang to be his family, and he expects everyone within the gang to feel this way as well. He doesn’t tolerate in-fighting, and he will make an example of people who decide to do this. He expects full loyalty, and he expects everyone to devote their entire lives to the gang.
- Certain people have taken to calling him ‘Izzy’, and despite the fact that the nickname is rather cutesy, he doesn’t seem to mind at all.
- He does his best to appear nonthreatening to everyone around him. He comes off as a normal, albeit high intelligent and very extroverted, teenage boy. He is engaged in sports, and he takes AP classes as well. For all intents and purposes, he almost seems like the perfect high school student.
- He can fluently speak English, German, Russian, French, and Japanese. He has an extremely thick German accent, however, since it is his native tongue. He prefers speaking it, but not many people in this area can, so he settles on giving the people around him nick-names in German.
- He named his tiger after his mother ironically. His tiger has taken better care of him – in his eyes – than the woman ever did.
- He is extremely phobic of the dark, and actually sleeps with his light on. He has to have a flashlight or something when he's outside at night in a dark area, as well.
- More than anything, he just doesn't want to be alone. It's why he surrounds himself with people and calls them his family. He really does care for them, in his own way.
