The male’s thick white hair was messy, blown this way and that by the wind on his way to work. It didn’t help that he kept running his fingers through it, either, but he was restless by nature really. It was early in the morning on a Saturday, but when you ran your own business, you were responsible for showing up no matter what. He closed the shop early on Saturday, at least, at noon. Really, the income he got from it was supplemental. He still got his checks for the service he paid his country several years back, but his therapist had said it was important to have something to do. Besides, running the store with Chase was a lot of fun anyway.
When he reached the little building, his hand fished around in his pocket until he produced the key that would unlock the door. As he stepped through, he took a deep breath, his bright blue eyes closing. The place smelled familiar, smelled of wood and rubber and outside, even though it was inside. He bustled around, flipping on the lights and restocking a couple of items before he flipped the ‘closed’ sign to ‘open’ and took a leisurely seat behind the register.
Alena was supposed to be joining him at some point today, though he was aware of the fact that she might not show up until after it was time to close up shop, which was fine since he’d basically reserved the entire day for her. Since moving out he obviously didn’t see his younger sister as much as he used to, and he was always happy to make time for her when she wanted to hang out. He propped his feet up on the bar that held the register, leaning back precariously in his seat.

With no school that day, Alena was looking forward to finally getting to spend time with her sister, err...brother, well, whatever Yulia happened to be that day at any rate. It had been a while since they had gotten to spend the day together just the two of them. Saturdays were usually the day she slept in but it seemed that Donna had other days and decided to wake her up at some ridiculous hour with a very loud rendition of Beethoven's 5th. Alena usually loved classical music, she usually enjoyed playing it and composing her own pieces when she had free time. However, when said classical song is played by a rather obnoxious familiar who thought 7:00 was far too late to sleep, Alena hated it. "Donna..."Alena groaned, pulling her pillow over her head in a vain attempt to drown out the noise,"It's too early, lemme alone,"she complained as she swat at the small orb hovering over her head.
This of course did nothing to hinder the familiar who only gave a series of short sounds that could easily be translated as laughter before flying away to troll someone else now that Alena was awake. It took Alena a while to drag herself out of bed after trying in vain to fall back to sleep. Really, was it too much to ask to sleep in for once? Yulia wasn't expecting her for a while yet but nevertheless there really was no point in trying to sleep now that Donna was in one of her moods. Unlike most teenager's rooms, Alena's room was kept in pristine condition with nary a hair out of place. To Alena, it was simply easier if she kept her room neat and organized in order to find everything. Sometimes Donna helped her but Alena had grown accustomed to her routine without the orb hovering around her and making a mess of things. Everything in Alena's room was organized and had its own place which was one of the reasons why she didn't like anyone else coming in, not even her siblings less they mess up her system. Some might call her obsessive but to Alena, it was something she could control. Besides, cleanliness made everything easier to find so it wasn't a bad thing.
It took only a few moments to get dressed and make her bed before heading out to the kitchen to grab a bite to eat. Initially she had been planning to head to Yulia's shop after it had closed but there really was no use waiting around when she had the entire day to waste. After telling Mom where she was headed, Alena left to head to the shop with Donna hovering close by as always. The familiar knew the way to the shop and in some respects acted like a seeing eye dog by giving periodic chirps to indicate where she had to turn next. With Donna's help, it didn't take long for Alena to reach the sporting good's store where she pushed open the door and was met with the familiar, almost overwhelming smell of rubber and wood. Wrinkling her nose a little at the scent, Alena waited for Donna's familiar chirp to let her know where to turn next. This time, it sounded further ahead and of course the little sprite had wasted no time in playing 'Good Morning' from the classic musical, Singing in the Rain, as if she was trying to be cute, annoying, or both. It was hard to tell when it came to Donna, really. "Morning~,"Alena called out, smiling as she walked over to where Donna was still playing the song.

His bright blue eyes fluttered closed as he sat there, though he wasn’t in the least bit tired. Boris had always been a morning person, and that wasn’t likely to ever change. He’d actually went on a jog before he ever came here, and he would likely go on another one when he dropped Alena back off at home. Boris did his best to keep busy during the day, to ensure that he was thoroughly exhausted by the time he was ready to sleep. It went beyond simply enjoying the act of working out – which he did. But still, a lot of it came back to the fact that if he slept deeply, his nightmares wouldn’t bother him quite as much. They came much more infrequently than they used to, but as much as he hated admitting it even to himself, he was afraid of them. They made him feel weak because he had no control over them, because he woke up sobbing and sometimes screaming, because Chase didn’t get them anymore.
Lost in his thoughts, he allowed the chair to tip back just a little too far. A gasp escaped his lips as his arms flashed forward along with the rest of his weight. The front legs of the chair smacked the ground loudly right before that little song started playing. He took a couple deep breaths, adjusting his glasses on his nose before his blue gaze swept the small store. His younger sister was walking toward him, easy to pick out not only because of her hair but also because of the glowing familiar that floated in front of her. In many ways, Alena did not look adopted in the slightest. She looked easily like a full-blooded Maksim sibling, and Boris never corrected people who thought she was.
He stood up easily, rubbing his palms off on his pants legs before he approached his sister. “Good morning, sissy~” He greeted, the word sounding slightly strange in his deeper tone. His arms wrapped around the much shorter girl, lifting her off the ground for a few seconds before he placed her safely back on her feet. “You’re up early~” He commented, tucking a piece of her hair that he had displaced back behind her ear. A soft snoring sound would reach his ears thereafter, and he chuckled a bit. “Olaf is certainly still dead asleep.” He stated with a grin.

The loud thump that came when the chair hit the ground made Alena start before Donna started playing the cheerful song as if nothing had happened. It had sounded like something had fallen hard on the ground but Alena couldn't place it. Well, it didn't sound bad per say...perhaps she could ask Boris...Yulia...whoever she was today...about it. Walking over to where Donna was still playing the song, Alena said good morning before she heard another voice, Boris' voice, greet her. The next thing she knew, she was being lifted in the air by her brother.
Normally such an action would have startled Alena, to say the least of things but she trusted Boris not to drop her. Laughing softly, Alena smiled down at him before he put her down once again. The comment about her being up early earned a soft groan from her as Boris tucked a strand of hair behind her ear. "You have Donna to blame for that. She decided to wake me up at seven this morning and then I couldn't go back to sleep after that,"Alena sighed, shaking her head.
As if on cue, Donna came back, singing yet another obnoxiously cheerful song that had Alena swatting at the orb. Donna however easily avoided it and morphed into a little ball of sunshine before flying over to Olaf. Nobody was going to be sleeping on her watch! At first, she simply tried playing 'Good Morning,' again as she danced around the polar bear cub's head before morphing into an alarm clock and ringing very loudly, causing Alena to yelp and cover her ears with her hands. Even if she was further away, Alena's ears were very sensitive and the sound of the alarm clock ring hurt. "Donna!"Alena scolded, still holding her hands over her ears.
Thankfully, Donna stopped, but not until she morphed into a bouncing ball and bounced around Olaf, clearly wanting to play. Shaking her head, Alena hugged Boris and set her head against him. Truthfully, she was still tired and now thanks to Donna, she had a migraine starting to form,"You're lucky you have a cute bear instead..."Alena mumbled, wishing that Donna wouldn't be so obnoxious.

He listened to his younger sister’s words with a bit of a frown on his face. He did wonder why her familiar seemed to be so obnoxious. The orb seemed to help her around, that was true, but a dog or basically any medium sized animal could do so just as well. Hell, some of the animals even spoke. If he could have gotten his hands on the god that saw fit to give her such a familiar he would have throttled them – but that was hardly possible, even Boris realized that. “Oh no.” He sympathized, the frown still on his features. “You’re on break and everything, you should be sleeping in while you can.” He told her, though he knew she was well aware of the fact.
His eyes fell on the orb once against as it – or maybe she? Alena had called it Donna, but could such a thing truly have a gender? Either way, he frowned at it as it started playing yet another obnoxious tune. Couldn’t it shut up? At this rate he would have a headache and then no one would be happy. Even though he watched it turn into an alarm clock, he still wasn’t ready for the loud noise that came from it. He jerked almost as violently as his bear, a slight tremor running through his fingers. As much as he kept it to himself, he could hardly stand loud noises anymore. He didn’t even have an alarm clock in his bedroom for this reason, a soft tune from his phone was enough to wake him up. He bristled slightly and quite frankly if Donna had been a person he would have decked her by this point.
Olaf was definitely awake and alert by this point, though he was still slightly clumsy from sleep as he pushed himself to his paws and whined softly at the ball in front of him. Olaf slept more deeply than anything Boris had ever seen, though soon enough his young age and playful nature would have him chasing after the ball and making high-pitched noises of delight. Well, maybe they would distract one another.
His arms wrapped around his younger sister automatically as she pressed against him, his fingers pushing up under her hair as he held her head close to his chest. The gesture was as comforting to him as it was to her, and if she noticed the slight shaking in his fingers he hoped she wouldn’t comment on it. “Olaf can be annoying enough in his own right, but you’re right. He’s nothing like Donna.” His voice was tighter than it had been earlier, but his annoyance would pass quickly enough assuming the orb didn’t do something else annoying. “If you’re tired I can get a sleeping bag out for you for a couple of hours.” He offered. -- Alena Maksim

At Boris' response to how early she had gotten up, Alena sighed and nodded. She knew full well that the Christmas break was supposed to be her chance to sleep in but then she hadn't really had a choice in the matter. If it had been her choice, she would have slept in until at least ten, if that but who knew how long Donna would actually let her sleep anyway. Sooner or later she would have been woken up, it just happened to be much earlier than Alena had expected this time.
Speaking of that troublesome orb, the alarm that the little imp became for the sole purpose of waking physically hurt Alena's already sensitive hearing. Whimpering softly, Alena hid her head against Boris after she had yelled at the stupid orb for doing that in the first place. Thankfully, at least judging by the sound of bouncing and the cute bear noises, Donna had succeeded in waking Olaf and was now leading chasing him, or being chased depending on the point of view, around the room.
Alena did in fact notice Boris' slight trembling but didn't make any mention of it considering that had been her reaction to the suddenness of the alarm as well. Still, the feeling of his arms holding her close were comforting and it helped to ease some of the tension she was feeling to say the least of things. "Her full name is Prima Donna for a reason. 'She' acts like Carlotta from the Phantom of the Opera...all high and mighty and full of herself,"Alena murmured in manner of explanation before shaking her head at the offer to get a sleeping bag,"No...I'll be fine, it's just a headache...it'll pass, she continued, wrapping her arms around Boris as she spoke. "What did you want to do today anyway?Alena asked quietly, smiling slightly at the thought of what her brother might have planned. ~~~ Yulia "Boris" Maksim

His fingers threaded absently through that white hair that was so familiar to him. Nearly everyone in his family, save for his youngest brother, had white hair. It was a family trait, it was how they were recognized in school. White hair, blue eyes, and Russian accents. Of course, Alena’s eyes were red, but his mother actually had red eyes as well. Either way, she had two out of three of the defining features, she was very obviously a Maksim. And that meant Boris would do anything to keep her happy and safe, anything. Even if it meant chasing that orb around the store like a fool, he would do it. Thankfully, that didn’t seem to be necessary as he listened to their familiars romping through the aisles.
He was grateful when his younger sister gave an explanation for who Carlotta was and how she acted. Despite having the natural talent for music that belonged to his family, Boris had never been one for musicals, operas, symphonies, or anything like that. He simply could not sit still through them, even if he did enjoy them to a degree at first. “Are you sure?” He questioned when his offer was turned down, though he would allow it to pass as the conversation moved forward. “I’ll get you something for your headache, at least.” He stated, not posing it as a question. He had some Tylenol behind the counter, after all.
“I was gonna take you shopping for Christmas.” He explained, grinning a bit. He never quite knew what to get his younger sister, so every year he would take her ‘shopping’. She would show him a few things she wanted, and he could go back later and buy one of them. In this way he was sure she was getting something she wanted, and she was still at least a little surprised.

The motion was soothing and Alena could feel herself relaxing a little more as Boris threaded his fingers through her hair. The question would just earn a brief shake of her head, she was sure and besides, sleeping more wouldn't really help anything. This was the time she had with her brother after all and she didn't want to waste one minute of it sleeping the day away. Besides, the headache would pass soon enough, or at least she hoped so. If only Donna hadn't woken her up...or turned into that blasted alarm clock...maybe then she wouldn't have this migraine for it was clear that was what her headache was becoming.
The suggestion of Tylenol was answered with a nod as Alena hid her face against Boris, not wanting to pull away just yet even though he had offered to get her something for the migraine. The familiars crashing through the store weren't certainly helping matters either and a few times Alena visibly winced as the pounding in her skull grew worse. It was getting to the point that even the reply about what they were going to do that day didn't elicit much of a response. Her head hurt and the pounding was just getting worse by the minute.
"That sounds...fun..."Alena finally replied after a moment even if her voice did sound pained,"Maybe...a nap would be good..."she continued, still not pulling away from Boris just yet. ~~~ Yulia "Boris" Maksim

The sounds of the familiars crashing around wouldn’t bother Boris quite as much as it did his sister. He was vaguely aware of it, but more focused on her. He could easily tell she wasn’t feeling well at all, and he had to wonder why her familiar wanted to be such a brat. If only it had an actual form he could throttle it, but either way that wouldn’t fix things. “A nap will make you feel better.” He murmured to her, reaching down to gently scoop her into his arms. She was tiny, she weighed next to nothing, and it really took no effort at all for him to lift her. Thereafter he would walk through the store, eventually coming to a stop and placing her back on her feet near the counter. Tylenol and a bottle of water would be fished up, the correct dosage shaken out into his hand before he handed them both to her. “Just let me go get your sleeping bag~”
Boris stepped around her thereafter, moving to the back of the store where he knew he had an opened sleeping bag. He sometimes kept things that he wanted from the merchandise and the sleeping bag had been one of them. He found it neatly rolled in a corner, tucking it under his arm. He returned to the counter thereafter, spreading it out behind his chair on the floor. His jacket was removed and folded at the top for a pillow. “There.” He stated, brushing his pants off. “I’ll wake you up when it’s time to go~” He told her, turning back to her.

The only acknowledgement Boris would receive of his next words was a simple nod before Alena found herself being picked up. Alena didn't mind being in Boris' arms in the slightest and simply wrapped her arms around his neck. She trusted him not to drop her after all, there was no reason that he would do anything like that when she was already feeling miserable. Besides that, she was used to being picked up and in fact rather enjoyed the closeness it brought with it. When he set her down once again, Alena almost didn't want to leave the warmth Boris' arms brought her but it couldn't be helped. He still needed to work after all or at the very least close up the store so that they could leave.
Taking the water and pills, Alena took them and murmured a quiet thank you before nodding at his next words. She knew better than to even try to move away from where she was when she was feeling so miserable after all. If it hadn't been for the counter, Alena was almost certain that she could have easily fallen. Leaning against the counter, Alena waited for Boris to come back and didn't so much as move until he said that it was ready. "Thank you, Boris..."Alena murmured before nodding again at his next words,"Alright,"she continued before laying down on the sleeping bag. It didn't take long before she was sound asleep. ~~~ Yulia "Boris" Maksim

A soft frown continued to play on his features as he watched his younger sister. He was rather upset that her familiar had seemed to cause so much trouble, but there was nothing he could do for it now other than try and reverse the damage. Surely a nap would help. By the time she woke up, the medicine should have taken care of her headache and she would feel better… he hoped. He chewed his lower lip, watching closely as she moved to lay down on top of the sleeping bag he had provided. “No problem~” He murmured easily, careful to control the volume of his voice. He didn’t want to make her headache worse, after all. He watched her closely until her breathing evened, and then he got busy with the work he had to do for the day.
Noon rolled around rather quickly, as he helped several customers and organized several shelves. The familiars had been quiet the majority of the time, and didn’t seem to get into any mischief. As a straggling customer was finally checked out and walked to the front of the shop, he would flip the sign on the door to ‘closed’ and stretch his hands over his head. He went about finishing up any last minute tasks before he finally made his way to where his sister slept. He would clean up the sleeping bag tomorrow morning, that wouldn’t be hard. He squatted next to her easily, his hand moving forward to shake her shoulder gently. “Alena?” He questioned. “Ya ready to go?” His tone remained soft. He knew what it was like to jerk out of sleep, and he didn’t want that for her in this moment.
