Towards most of the human populace, Nikolai is a harsh individual. Upfront to the point of being blunt as a bat and being strict enough to fault anyone with even a minor divergence from the standard law or order, he doesn’t hold back his thoughts of others or their situations. He is critical to a fault and cares little for social digression. Very few can bear his rigorous insults meant to cut people down to where he believes they should be standing. However, what makes Nik different from a bully is that most of his insults hold truth. He is capable of looking deeply at others, picking apart the worst parts of them, and throwing such things at their faces without remorse. No one is perfect, but that doesn’t mean Nik will let anyone get away without hearing of their imperfection.
There is only one exception to Nik’s brash nature. This occurs when he is around his family whom he loves and adores like no other. His family is his world, and he would die defending them in a heartbeat. Whether they are good, bad, or indifferent, his family members are perfect in Nik’s eyes. He has blinded himself to their mortality faults and puts them all on par with higher order beings, perhaps even gods if he wasn’t critical of higher powers in general. He adores them and becomes legitimately sweet, caring, and compassionate beyond leaps and bounds. He can be and is the sweetest man to his siblings and parents. Yes, he does a three sixty towards them.
Despite this seemingly large crack in Nik’s personality, he is otherwise stable as a person. Justice matters greatly to him, and he wouldn’t break a law even under the harshest of peer pressure. He also holds himself to an extensive moral standard and would not waiver knowingly. His pride keeps him from doing such things, and he detests hypocrisy beyond reason. Those who would say they followed a standard and did not should not only earn a stern talking to but a good kick in the face. That being said, Nik is not normally a violent individual. He detests violence seeing it as yet another breach of the law and causing harm to others. It takes a lot to bring such a reaction out of him, and he often heavily regrets it later on. It’s wrong, plain and simple.
This strong sense of justice and what is right makes Nik a hard working individual. He would work eight days a week if necessary and possible. However, he is also aware of himself and knows burn out is dangerous. Thus he does take some time for himself. His favorite past time is painting which he did excessively in years passed. Art is a way of self-expression for Nik, something that he craves when stressed. His favorite paintings are surrealistic or hyper realistic in nature, and modern art is something he cannot grasp or respect readily. If there is some meaning behind it expressed to him, he is more likely to tolerate it. Another passed time is music though this outlet has switched from playing to simple appreciation as time has gone on. He does play every once in a while and still has many songs memorized. However, he often feels as though music is meant to be shared whereas drawing and painting can be kept more personal.
Despite a seemingly unapproachable personality, Nik is surprisingly loyal to those who manage to tolerate him and keep up with him over large amounts of time. They have the possibility to become family to him, and he would willingly cling to them as such.
History
Though he has no memories of it, Nikolai was born in Russia while his parents were trying to escape the country’s political and social tension. He would be but a toddler when the small family finally moved to America. They’d initially settle in Washington but would move around across the country in the next few years. Nikolai has vague memories of various houses and apartments they lived in during that time, but when Nik was three, his first of many siblings would be born. Nik was five when they would finally settle down in Georgia, and it would be there that he started elementary school.
Through his first few years of elementary, Nikolai was a shy child. Having learned little English and mostly Russian in his childhood, he was rather behind and forced to take extra classes in order to catch him up with the spoken and written language. Through his years, he would continue to learn Russian alongside English, and in time, his preference for one language over the other faded. Those first few years, however, would lay the foundation for a good deal of his personality, however. Being teased, bullied, and the like left Nik a fragile individual. Rather than return fire, he clung readily to his family for validation. His father wanted him to be proud of his heritage; his mother wanted him to be compassionate toward the other students. In time, pride would win out, however, and Nik found himself retaliating more and more. This, however, left him with few friends.
Rather than establish close relations with friends, Nik turned towards his growing family. With financial stability came expansion, and he found himself with more siblings to adore and protect. Some were even adopted from Russia under less than known circumstances. It didn’t matter to Nik considering they were all family regardless. He could often be seen taking care of them when he wasn’t focusing on his studies. His grades were rather decent due to a growing hard working demeanor, but he enjoyed art and music class more than others. His mother encouraged him to be an artist and explore his imaginative side, and he would learn to play the piano fluidly in time.
As he grew, however, Nik only grew more frustrated with his peers. They were diverging every which way but always seemed to lack the care he held. They were far too rough, far too immature, too ridiculous. They irritated him, but it didn’t occur to Nik at the time how ahead he was in comparison to them. Being the eldest sibling of many siblings had forced him to mature quickly, and he held his siblings in higher regard than many at his age did. They were his only friends, his only family, and in a special way, as Nik grew critical of others, he held tight to his family. They were his, and they were perfect. No one could tell Nik otherwise.
For a long time, Nik didn’t know what he wanted to do, what field he wanted to go into as an adult. He certainly enjoyed music and art as well as most classes, but would such a passion get him so far? He wasn’t so sure. He searched through his other likes and eventually stumbled upon a central theme in himself. He liked order, he liked things a certain way, he liked things perfect. Laws were good, rules were meant to be followed. He enjoyed retaliating against his peers with them and continuously winning arguments that way. He was good at arguing, and eventually he got himself an internship at a local firm as a secretary of sorts. The lawyer eventually let him attend a few court hearings even, and Nik found what he liked. He liked watching the law at work. It was an art, a precarious but emasculate art. He especially liked criminal justice- even if sometimes it sickened him to see criminals go free. He swore if he were a lawyer, he would be more persuasive, be better than any other.
Despite his disdain for others, he entered into the debate team, and surprisingly, Nik had charisma with his facts. He could speak in a way that commanded attention, but it was only on reflection later that he would assess it came from helping raise his siblings. There were tones that worked better than others, and he figured them out rather quickly. As time went on, Nik unwillingly began to see the other sides of things. While he clung to a black and white world, he understood more and more sides of things. Rather than break in resolve, however, he steeled himself. He refused to be weak in his resolve. Understanding other sides would only help his cases, or so he swore.
Towards the end of high school, he was accepted into a decent college and majored in prelaw and minored in art history. He applied to several law schools and eventually got into one that wasn’t his first choice but still acceptable. He passed the bar exam at 26, a year under the ‘norm’ and with a rather proud family at that. Practice was difficult thereafter, and it didn’t come without mistakes and frustration, but Nik did well overall. In but a few years, he made it directly under the DA. He worked more and more in paperwork there much to his disdain, but as time passed, he got more cases of his own to handle.
When the event occurred, Nik was approached by one of the three gods. His wish to look younger reversed a good deal of the stressful aging that had come about from years of schooling and legal work much to Nik’s surprise, but it was the familiar and the “power” that came with it after that that continued to confuse and sometimes frustrate him as time went on. Apparently he had the loyalty and pack mentality of a wolf and would ‘appreciate it’ in time or so he was told. Nik isn’t sure how it’s supposed to help considering he doesn’t work in force. He’s still trying to figure that out.
Insignia Level 2
Insignia: Nik has a spade tattoo just under his left eye that acts as the insignia to turn on his power.
Passive/Familiar: The passive is a pup form of Nik’s summon. She’s small and rather shy but like many familairs carries a good deal of intellect. She’s capable of human speech but rarely talks around anyone but Nik. When she does talk around others, she tends to come off as quiet and fearful. Nik has since started calling her Anya.
lvl 1 form: Wolf Summon- Nikolai is capable of summoning a single red wolf for fifteen minutes once per day. Standing just a little over two feet and weighing a standard seventy pounds, the wolf is at first glance unimpressive. However, while smaller than a grey wolf, she is more agile. She doesn’t have extra or excessive force apart from a standard wolf but can do damage with her bite force. Her coat is a sandy grey with the feet being nearly white and the saddle area being a slate grey. The most notable feature of the wolf happens to be her blue eyes instead of the standard brown.
Lvl 2 form shift: Ice Fang- Without changing form, stature, or anything, the red wolf is capable of ‘freezing’ her teeth into sharper fangs when biting a foe leaving ice burn damage as well as lacerations. She can only use this when summoned and only once during the time she is summoned.
Extra
He has 5 siblings, three biological and two adopted. They are all younger than him and have an overall decent relationship with him.
