To those who don’t know him, Jesse can come off as overly shy or mute on first meeting. He speaks in a low tone and with very clear, concise words as if he hopes not to be misinterpreted or misconstrued. However, one will note the look in his eyes is often something incredibly bright as though he is clearly living if nothing else. Indeed, he thinks a lot and very deeply, always one to organize his thoughts and emotions before presenting them to others- even if this processing often causes him to come off as monotone in the process. While not the Albert Einstein of this century, Jesse is a thoughtful person, always thinking, analyzing, and understanding as much as possible. He likes numbers considering they’re easy to correlate and tends to attempt to rate others by them in his mind. Sometimes he finds this very difficult, however, and will put such things aside even if he prefers them.
Towards those that get to know him better, he is a sweet and caring individual. Someone more than willing to go the extra mile for those he cares about, Jesse has a habit of ignoring his personal needs for the needs of those that matter to him. He tries desperately not to be a burden on others, often doing things his own way for this reason, yet he would more than willingly lay down his coat, his money, and his life for the true friends he makes and his brother. That being said, he has a natural habit of taking care of others and has been noted for his general motherly attitude towards such individuals.
That being said, on the stance of morals and laws, he’s rather on the fence. He sees human justice as flawed and that rules are meant to be broken by selective individuals, and while he doesn’t necessarily think cooking drugs is the right thing to do, it doesn’t necessarily keep him awake at night either. He justifies himself by assuring that if he wasn’t cooking it, someone else would be anyways. There’s definitely a demand, so why not supply to the weaker part of society that craves it? They’ve already screwed up their lives by getting mixed up in it, so why not cash in and get through college? Though he is caring towards his friends and family, he doesn’t necessarily care about anyone else in this regard. To say he’s a bit backwards wouldn’t be too far from the mark on this.
History
Generations of Alders had been raised on the family land and worked it from birth till death, and the young boy named Jesse Ray seemed no different. Raised by a strong father, a caring mother, and a kind brother, he had some of his best memories growing up on the farm. Taught to take care of himself from a young age, the youngest Alder picked up many house and land skills, seemingly everything from cooking and cleaning to the caregiving of animals and even people as he grew. However, like many rascally young boys, he was often getting into trouble in one form or another whether it be scaring his family or the neighbors with pranks or startling the animals into miniature stampedes. While his parents scolded him, his brother very often bailed him out in one form or another, often shouldering the heavier part of the blame in many situations.
By the age of instruction, Jesse would find himself set upon the daily school bus next to his brother to make the hour and a half journey to town. There, he would be a rather shy child, far from the outgoing individual he was at home, much to his parents’ confusion upon a parent teacher conference. It seemed he had a hard time making friends despite his educational situation generally being above par in most subjects. There was even a small hint that he might have been teased by the way he talked and the color of his snow white hair though the teacher could never quite catch the other children in the act. As time went on, the once outgoing boy would grow progressively quieter and reclusive.
At the very least, when he was at home and/or around his brother, the young boy was quick to shine again, always laughing and having fun in one form or another. He showed a love of riding horses especially and seemed to connect with them more so than even the stable hands. Perhaps it was just the fact he always brought the higher quality treats with him at the end of it all, but either way, his adoration for them was always apparent.
This would last only so long, however. The family was struggling financially, and when Jesse was about to enter the fourth grade, they were forced to sell the farm and move into town. The cheerful boy grew so reclusive and quiet that it was evident how much it had affected him. His mother tried her best to assure him they would still be able to go out riding sometime and stare out at the stars at night from where they were, yet these things were difficult to accomplish due to a lack of money and the city lights.
As he entered middle school, Jesse would managed to get one friend outside of his brother, another boy named Max. Surprisingly, Max managed to bring Jesse so far out of his shell that he even managed to make more friends as time went on. Sure he was never the most social, and it became apparent that he was a budding introvert. However, for the first time in his life, he actually had long term friends, and Jesse appreciated that greatly.
Financial troubles would still plague the family, however, and the stress of it would eventually tear his parents’ relationship apart. They would divorce right before Jesse was to enter his freshman year of high school. His father would take his brother, and his mother would take him. He cried- a lot, and was incredibly frustrated through daily life if only because his father went so far as to pull his brother from their school and send him elsewhere leaving Jesse unable to see him. He often got angry at his mother for having let his father take his brother away, but rather than defend herself from his harsh words, his mother would cry- which would make him cry in turn.
He’d awkwardly sift through high school thereafter, and while Max was starting to change, Jesse changed with him. He grew more quietly rebellious, doing things he knew he shouldn’t have, and even going so far as to etch into minor crimes of which would eventually include cooking drugs. It seemed he had a natural had for it- or so the man that Max had introduced him to on the subject said. Very few could have such smooth movements, apparently. When Jesse had tried to explain it was because he had learned many hand skills from cooking, the man had just laughed at him and said it was great either way. At the end of the day, Jesse would find extra cash in his pockets, and whereas some like Max might have spent it on parties and the like, Jesse began to save for a trip to see his brother.
This trip would never happen, however, for instead, it seemed his brother came to meet him instead. Just before Jesse was to graduate from high school, his brother would appear saying he had come to see him walk across the stage. Jesse nearly cried, but the rebuke to be a man and smile forced him to do just that. They began to make plans thereafter- to even live together while both were in school (because his brother was bound and determined to have him go to college, it seemed). Eventually Jesse would apply to and would get in to the famous Barclay University. However, the price tag on the school was unnerving to say the least of it, and during this time, under his brother’s nose, he began to pay for it in one of the few ways he knew how: cooking drugs, especially meth.
As time went on, he would also get a job at a local restaurant in order to justify at least some of the money he had on hand, but what Jesse wouldn’t expect was that the restaurant really liked his cooking style as well and that he would be promoted from waiter to chef rather quickly. At the end of it all, he was thankful, however, and continued to work, ‘work’, and go to school hoping to make his brother proud.
When the event occurred, a ‘man’ appeared before Jesse offering to ‘solve’ his problems with a wish but in paranoia, Jesse initially refused. The ‘man’ just laughed and gave him the insignia foregoing a wish for now, anyways. Now a days, Jesse still works and takes care of things.
Insignia Level 1
Jesse’s insignia comes in the form of two simple moles, one on his index finger and the other on his thumb. To activate his power, he simply has to snap the two together.
Telekinesis – level 1 – Jesse is capable of causing small objects to levitate for up to twenty minutes at a time. The limit is not so much an item limit as a weight limit for he can levitate a number of things but they must not exceed twenty pounds together. They must also be within a ten foot range of him. At the moment, he cannot telekinetically throw items in a melee format but can simply lift them and keep them in a spacial plane for a certain length of time. This is useful to him only when cooking, really, as it keeps items from being knocked over or spilled when he’s working and allows for them to be at hand when he needs them.
The passive is a rather well-mannered sleepy fat cat who seems to naturally take towards individuals in a way that Jesse finds difficult.
Extra
He still sleeps with a stuffed horse and will answer to ‘cowboy’ when his brother says it.
