History
Born to a conservative Arabic family originally from Egypt, Sagira was born three years after her older brother and would be the middle child of three but a few years after. Raised initially with strict beliefs in women’s roles, she would grow up helping her mother in house duties while her father and eventually her brothers would do ‘men’s work’ as it was designated. Despite this clear division in her life, Sagira was always one to press boundaries; perhaps it was the American spirit with which she was born into or perhaps it was just a rebellious air that she had taken up elsewhere, it mattered little. At five years old, she was already clashing with her father and brothers day in and day out demanding to be treated as ‘one of the boys’ or at least something close to it. Her father would never have it that way, however. Men were to lead; women were to follow. Those were his words, his law, and he would enforce them even at the cost of silencing his only daughter.
Her years in elementary school would grant Sagira a solace of sorts. Her world expanded through learning, and she felt more justified in her own rebellion when learning of the more ‘archaic cultures’ in comparison to what she was coming to believe was her own: one of individualism and rights. She would find peers there who were of the American culture as well and supported her along with their parents at varying intervals. Most weekends, she would ‘spend the night with a friend’ wherein she would feel truly free for a number of hours at a time, and during this time, she grew incredibly girly. Adoring gold, she found herself yearning for even a semblance of it, and despite her father’s words that she shant have it until she became a ‘lady’, her mother slipped her some arm bands and necklaces of their home that she adored and cherished.
As time went on, her love of learning would progressively get Sagira into trouble- for it gave her more fuel with which to clash with not only her father but her brother’s and some others as well. Frequently, she would fight with her family, yet each and every time, her mother would beg her father to be merciful, and Sagira would be spared being kicked out: even if she wasn’t spared from personal abuse. It was a hard life, but Sagira was surprisingly strong all too readily and would not bow to any other- save for certain favorite teachers who preached individualism and self-reliance.
In middle school, Sagira would find herself starting to decide what she wanted to be- that of a fashion designer. Unlike the little girls who dreamed of being a vet or a housewife, she wanted to be as powerful as the big name fashion designers who could step on the throats of others with ease. Perhaps it had been a mistake for her to see The Devil Wears Prada, but her friend’s mother would never catch on to this, sadly enough. Regardless, she had the domestic talent of sewing down pat pretty well already, so it just became a quest for figuring out what she liked in terms of design thereafter. She would spend long hours sewing and designing, and even her father applauded somewhat- if only because she was finally willingly doing ‘women’s work’.
It was a struggle to be noticed, certainly. Amongst the sea of other fashion designers, her dreams were diluted, but she tried very hard taking numerous school classes both during the regular school year and during the summer when she could in order to get better and make connections. Sagira’s father had a different idea, however, which included marrying her off to another traditionalist family when she turned eighteen. He only revealed this fact to her when she was fifteen, and a horrified Sagira would stare on upon meeting her groom to be for the first time. She wanted out of there. She wanted to go to college first! She wanted to live her life, find love like in the stories, and be happily married. She didn’t want someone else choosing her fate!
She tried running away from home several times thereafter, each time either by being caught or running out of resources and eventually returning of her own accord. Each time she was yelled at and beaten for disobeying, and each time, she screamed and retaliated back at her father whom she insisted would not listen to any words ever. At the tender age of seventeen, she would graduate high school, but before she would turn eighteen and be legally married off, Sagira made one more run for it this time with a friend helping her with some of the bigger expenses. She got all the way to Georgia, numerous states away, in hopes of disappearing there in one of the cities to remake herself.
Life was hard thereafter. Getting into the job market was difficult, and most of the jobs she took up were minimum wage and long hours. However, Sagira swore she would never go back, and thus she struck it out working for an entire year straight before finally managing to get in all her documentation for college. She’d start community college at the tender age of nineteen, but despite being a year behind most peers there, she struggled to catch up as best she could- which came in terms of overworking herself and crashing and burning the first semester. The second semester was not nearly as bad if only because she forced herself to work at a steadier pace even if it meant a pay cut. As time went on, she started seeping her fashion design projects to various important persons around the globe. However, this would be cut off when ‘the event’ occurred.
Before her would come a being who granted her the wish she carried at the time: to have her schooling and housing fully paid for, and just like that, everything was open to her. She would bear an insignia across her back, however, that would cause an unprecedented amount of pain. Whether it was due to conflict in her heart against ‘Peace’ or because she was just unlucky, Sagira would receive an abnormally large insignia across her back and a weakened physical state that caused her to collapse then and there. Thereafter, at seemingly random intervals, her back would start to ache. Despite this, she pushed forwards as best she could- not quite blaming Peace as much as she wanted to for the experience. One wish had been granted after all… but just… this hurt….
Insignia Level 1
Doppelganger- lvl 1- Sagira is capable of creating a single clone of herself for fifteen minutes before both bodies become unstable and must rejoin. She can go about fifty feet in any direction away from ‘herself’, but beyond this distance puts excessive strain on Sagira’s mind and causes distortions in her clone and sometimes in her ‘true’ body as well. An injury on one body will also appear on the other and vice versa and will remain on the single body once they reform. In theory, this insignia was bestowed upon her in order to ‘help’ get her massive amount of work done, but considering it only lasts for fifteen minute intervals as of right now, it doesn’t quite ‘help’ as much as it could. The insignia takes the form of a ‘tattoo’ across Sagira’s back, and to activate it, she must simply touch part of it.
The passive takes the form of a ghosty ‘image’ of Sagira herself save for some contorted portions of the ‘image’ here and there- and strangely spiked hair. Sagira has called the ghost Aziza considering the ghost refuses to speak ‘her’ actual name. When Sagira asked why the ghost took her form, Aziza simply replied back that it was due to the doppelganger effect- whatever that meant.
Extra
Don’t call her Sagie, she will hit something.
She’s incredibly afraid of snakes, roaches, and daddy longlegs.
She loves sweets of all types and flavors.
When stressed, she runs- for miles and then reads romance books.
